[A must read] things you need to know about Kogi State University


Hello, It is my pleasure to welcome you all. I just found out most of us  aspirants and student of the great citadel of learning, Kogi State University, aka, KSU, Don't know
much about our school, so I decide to make this research and share with us things we  need to know about KSU. Enjoy.

Kogi State University, located at Anyigba, is the University of Kogi State, Nigeria. It was established in 1999 by Prince Abubakar Audu, the former governor of the state. At the
time of its establishment, it was known as Kogi State University, It was named Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU) in 2002 and later renamed Kogi State University in
2003(KSU). Professor S.K. Okwute (Professor of Chemistry) was the
pioneer Vice Chancellor (2000 - 2005) and currently back to University of Abuja. Professor F.S. Idachaba (OFR) Professor of Agric-Economics, took over between 2005 to 2008 and  retired to work in his foundation (F.S. Idachaba Foundation for Research and Scholarship), he is late now. Died  this year. May his soul rest in peace.

The incumbent Vice Chancellor is professor Hassan S. Isah (Professor of Chemical Pathology), from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, took over in October, 2008.

Kogi State University commenced academic activities in April,2000 in six Faculties. Namely; Faculties of Agriculture, Arts and humanities, Law, Management Sciences, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences, and now has faculty of
Education and Medicine added. presently comprising about 35+ Departments.

The Centre for Pre-Degree and Diploma Studies was established under the present University administration to run diploma and pre-degree programmes. Students of the pre-degree programme could gain admission into degree
programme if they are successful in the internal exams and need not write the Post-UTME exams but must have at least 180 JAMB cut-off mark. While student of the
diploma programme could gain admission into Degree after
completing a two years course of which their total CGPA must be 3.50+ and above

The University offer many courses such as Microbiology,Biochemistry, Geology, Physics, Mathematics,
Computer Sciences,Law, Public Administration, Statistics,
Business Administration, Accounting, Banking and Finance,
Theatre Arts, Food, Nutrition and Home Sciences, Agricultural Economics and Extension, crop production, Animal Production, Soil Science, Food Science and technology, Fishery and Forestry, Islamic Studies, Religious and philosophy, English, Medicine & Surgery, History and International Studies, Sociology,Mass Communication, Economics, e.t.c.
About 90% of the courses offered in the university are accredited by the Nigeria university commission (NUC).

The Institution started with a student population of about 700 which as at 2009/2010 admission exercise has grown to about 9,000. The University has a student population of about 12,000 undergraduates, 1,700 postgraduates, 1,800, members of staff comprising 485 academic staff out of various cadres with about 360 of them holding Ph.D degrees.

It admits qualified students who choose it as his or her first choice of institution and pass its post-UTME exams. Its cut-off mark for candidates to be qualified for the post- UTME exams is 180.
O'level requirements: waec/neco 5 credit including maths and English. Admission into ksu is based on merit. School fees of  2012/2013 session  for indigene was 35,600 while for non-indigene was 57,600
2013/2014 session for indigene is 57500, while for non-indigene is 100,000.
