Golden Eaglets of Nigeria are been handed a honour chance when they face the U-17 nationals from Guinea on Sunday in the third-place match.
Nigeria lost 1-0 to South Africa in the semi-final.
The Emmanuel Amuneke led team first with Guinea in the group stage which they played out 1-1 but
former Nigerian player, Mohammed Lawal believes that the Eaglets would win Sunday’s tie, the fourth
between the teams in the
competition.
‘I see the Golden Eaglets winning the bronze medal at the expense of Guinea, the result of the group
games doesn't matter at this stage because a medal is involved.
‘The group game against Guinea wasn't a very good game for Nigeria no doubt and it's normal to
have a bad day in football, I think that was the Eaglets’ bad day.
‘But I am sure coach Amuneke will not like to return to Nigeria without any medal from this competition.’
Lawal’s confidence in the coach and the team does not waiver as he recalls Nigeria’s exploits in age-cadre competitions.
‘There is so much expectation on these Eaglets and also the coach, they under pressure because
of what the last Golden Eaglets did.
‘Amuneke is a quality coach who can handle all of these to get the desired result against Guinea.’
