A Lecturer in the department of biochemistry, Kogi state university, Anyigba, Dr Amlabu Emmanuel, has emerged winner of the individual research in life sciences and medicine category at the 6th Nigerian Universities Research and Development fair organized by the National Universities Commission (NUC), held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
Kogi State University also came second in Life Sciences and Medicine based on the category of discipline.
Dr Amlabu was also presented with the prize based on his research entry on "New Generation Malaria Vaccine Development".
Other universities that participated alongside KSU were Babcock University, Redeemer University, University of Ilorin, Federal University of Technology, Minna, University of Port Harcourt, and the hosts, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
In a related development, Dr Amlabu has secured funding from the World Bank African Centre of Excellence. He will also be hosted at the West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infections (WACCBIP), University of Ghana, Accra, where he will be provided with all institutional resource.
It is hoped that during his tenure as a visiting researcher, his research will form the basis for securing WACCBIP-Welcome Trust DELTAS research award to pursue a vaccine for malaria.
