It would be recalled that on Thursday 14th April 2016, the Kogi State branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) embarked on a "no pay, no work" industrial action over unpaid salaries
In response, the Director General Protocol to the Kogi State Government, Pharm Abdulkareem Muhammed Jamiu has reacted to the ongoing strike, hitting it hard on the immediate past administration of Idris Wada.
He posted:
Yesterday, His Excellency, Gov Yahaya Bello invited the top management team of Kogi State University led by the VC Prof Abdulkadir Suleiman and the representative of ASUU KSU chapter led by Comrade Gbenga, the acting ASUU chairman to find a lasting solution to the ongoing strike action.
Upon deliberation, the representative of ASUU claimed the strike action is due to their salary arears of Oct, Nov, and Dec 2015 and January 2016 being owed by the past administration. The representative also admitted the fact that they have received the salary for the month of February and March 2016, 100%.
GYB in his usual way pleaded with them not to punish the students and give his government a bad name over what he inherits. In his reaction, GYB said and I quote.."Government is continum and as such, I will not shy away from fixing the liabilities I inherited from the past administration. We are already doing the best we can to access the bail out fund and as soon as we get it, u will have ur money paid in full. If u failed to go on strike while ur three (3) months salary was being owed by the past administration then, I see no reason why u should embark on strike now".
The moment the moment our detractors try to spread lies, they ended up exposing the misdid of the administration which some of them claim to be supporting.
Lies and campaign of hatred shall not deter GYB from moving Kogi foward in the new direction. Despite the overbloated wage bill we met on ground upon which the past administration was paying 40% salary, we manage the meagre resources coming as federal allocation to Kogi civil servants 100% salary using the list submitted by the heads of various ministries and institutions as authentic staff. For anyone to blame the ongoing ASUU on the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello is not just an act of ignorance but also a share backwardness in our ways of life.
Who ever in his right senses that still come on air to argue in favour of the past administration is indeed in need of Education. At the end of the day, the truth will be out.
How can a siting Governor failed to pay ordinary workers salary after receiving allocations for the said months? What are the justifications for that? What even happen to our IGR if only we have any to be accounted for?
How can our state continue to be ruled in backward direction when the sister states created alongside ours are all doing well?
In the we all will have thr course to see and agree with the fact that God did enthroned GYB for a single reason of changing our state for the better. The earlier we realise this fact, the better for us as Kogites.
Long live Governor Yahaya Bello
Long live Kogi state.
Pharm. Abdulkareem mohammed Jamiu.
DG Protocol.
