KOGI GROUP DEMANDS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF TAOFIK ISA

BEING A WORLD PRESS CONFERENCE ADDRESSED BY THE PRESIDENT, KOGI INTEGRITY GROUP (KIG), BARRISTER ZACCHAEUS DARE MICHAEL, DEMANDING THE IMMEDIATE AND UNCONDITIONAL  RELEASE OF KOGI ALGON CHAIRMAN, HON. TAOFIK ISA, IJUMU LGA ADMINISTRATOR
Gentlemen of the press, we invited you here today to address the world on the illegal arrest and detention of the Kogi State ALGON Chairman/Ijumu LGA Administrator, Hon Taofik Isa, by the Nigerian Police.

The entire coalition of youths which encompasses all the youths and students’ bodies in Kogi west senatorial district in collaboration with Kogi Integrity Group, hereby demand the immediate release of Hon Taofik Isa.

We want to state here categorically that the assassination attempt on Dino Melaye upon which the ALGON chairman was arrested and detained was totally wrong and dehumanizing because Hon Taofik was just one of the numerous political rivalry in the state that Dino has labeled as his foe.

This was a man who posted on his facebook wall about three months ago that he foresaw the same Hon Taofik and the Chief of Staff to Kogi Governor, Edward Onoja, in a beautiful prison uniforms.

Should this kind of person raise an allegation and be taken seriously?  Corroborating Dino’s statement on his facebook wall with the recent assassination attempt on his life as he claimed, one can easily conclude that the alleged attacked was orchestrated.

The question that Nigerians should ask Senator Dino Melaye is that why did he come home with over 10 fairy looking fully armed police officers? Why did he lodge them in a far distance hotel while he has enough room in his house that could accommodate security men?

While the attack was on, why did Dino not put a call through to the officers even when he claimed that the attack lasted for over one hour?

The entire people of Kogi State and indeed Nigeria at large are not unaware of Dino’s numerous antecedents in thuggery, rascality, public nuisance, flamboyancy, and other unethical and unthinkable behavior.

We urge Dino to concentrate on the national assignment which is the mandate that has been given to him, to bring dividends of democracy to his people as his other colleagues in the senate have been doing in their respective constituencies.

And if he felt that his antecedents in the state can never earned him second term ticket due to his poor representation of his people in the senate, we think the best thing for him to do is to retrace his step rather than engaging in an unending battle with everybody.

However, in as much as the youths did not want to interrupt the ongoing investigation on the alleged assassination attempt on Dino, we demand that the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to immediately order the release of Hon Taofik or charge him to court because his continous detention violate his fundamental human right.

The Senators are elected to make laws for the people of Nigeria, but it is disheartening that some of them are abusing that position, and using it as a medium to witch-hunting their perceived political enemies without recourse to the rule of law.
