Instagram User shares Testimony of how she was released by Suspected RitualistsThis Instagram post has one lesson that stands out, and that is to love yourself the way you are.
User @juliearthbarbie shared a testimony of how she was released by suspected ritualists last week. See below:
I know it will come as a shocker to you but I’m glad it will electrocute the devil ðŸ˜†ðŸ˜†ðŸ˜†ðŸ˜†
On thursday morning at about 5am I boarded a bus at my bustop and another man wanted to enter but the conductor refused saying he had 1000naira this early morning but the man didn’t say anything so how did the conductor know? They pretended like they were picking up another but when she tried to enter, they drove off.
The conductor told the man beside me that where is he going to that he paid 30 naira and so he got up trying to point out where he will alight and the next thing was someone grabbed my head, neck , tied my eyes, covered my mouth and I was screaming Jesus and they pulled me to the floor of the bus.
Removed every metal on my body, tied my legs together, touching my private part and he wanted to tie my hands I said while crying that I have gone through a lot in life that they should please have mercy on me.
The bus was silent when they saw my hand and then they started murmuring. The main boss asked them to unfold my eyes and mouth and asked what happened to my hand and I said it was how I was born and I was a (Corps Member) going to my place of primary assignment. He was quite and then told me that they would let me go and cleaned my eyes, gave me my belongings, told me sorry and dropped me off at a point.
Then I appreciated God for moulding me this way from birth because if it was from an accident they might not let me go and if my hand were complete just say bye bye to earth😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Am sorry God for being ashamed of it but it is the people of the world that always made me feel incomplete ðŸ˜ðŸ˜

Osinbajo has not taken over talks with ASUU – FG

The federal government has reacted to news making the rounds that vice president Yemi Osinbajo has taken over talks between the FG and striking university lecturers.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige had made the declaration on Wednesday while fielding questions from State House correspondents after the meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) that the VP has taken over parts of the negotiation with the academics.
Ngige stated that this was part of the council’s resolutions at the meeting which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, his first meeting with all the members of the cabinet, since his return from medical vacation on August 19.
“This is the first national strike that this government is facing and we want to discuss.
At council today, the Vice President has taken over some of the aspects of the negotiations and discussions.
So, we are continuing the meeting in his office and when we finish meeting, we will get back to Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for another round of meeting and we are hopeful that we will be able to go to an appreciable extent to solve some of the outstanding issues that is preventing them from going back to work,’’ Ngige said.
Reacting to the development on Thursday, Osinbajo’s spokesperson Laolu Akande tweeted:
“News reports that VP Osinbajo has taken over ASUU negotiations is untrue & inaccurate. Labour & Education Ministers continue to lead the talks.”
In a statement on Friday, Akande said the media misrepresented what Ngige meant, saying that the labour and education ministers are still in charge of negotiations.
ASUU is demanding the full implementation of the 2009 agreements reached with the federal government bordering on improvement in welfare and payment of backlog of salaries and entitlements, among other issues.
The union embarked on the strike August 14, 2017.

“Please call off the strike and return to the Negotiation Table” – FG tells ASUU

BellaNaija - "Please call off the strike and return to the Negotiation Table" - FG tells ASUU
The Federal Government has appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to suspend its ongoing strike in the universities in the interest of the nation.
Sen. Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment made the appeal in a statement signed by Mr Samuel Olowookere, Deputy Director, Press, in the Ministry, on Tuesday in Abuja.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had on Monday declared an indefinite strike over Federal Government failure to keep to the 2009 agreement.
According to Ngige, there is an ongoing renegotiation of the 2009 agreement between the Federal Government and ASUU by the Babalakin Committee:
The Federal Government has set up the Babalakin Committee on 13th Feb. 2017, which is already addressing the issues raised by ASUU. Though the Federal Government did not wish to apportion blame, it is important to note that ASUU did not follow due process in the declaration of the industrial action. As it did not give the Federal Government, the mandatory 15 days’ notice as contained in the Section 41 of Trade Disputes Act, Cap T8, 2004. In fact, it was on 14th Aug., 2017 that the Office of the Minister received a letter dated 13th Aug. 2017 from ASUU, that is, one full day after it commenced the strike.
He, however, noted that the letter was to inform the Federal Government that ASUU has commenced strike, adding that this is not a declaration of intention to go on strike as contained in the Trade Dispute Act, 2004.
He further said that since the case was being conciliated, it was against the spirit of Social Dialogue and Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for ASUU to embark on strike as enunciated in the International Labour Organisation (ILO)Convention. He said:
The Federal Government therefore wishes to appeal to ASUU to consider students who are currently writing degree and promotion examinations. Please call off the strike and return to the negotiation table.’
The minister added that the Ministry of Labour and Employment would ensure that a time frame is tied to negotiation this time around.
Ngige added that the Babalakin Committee was ever ready to continue the negotiation.
He also noted that the necessary ingredients for fruitful social dialogue as well as adequate powers to negotiate and make recommendations to the Federal Government had been put in place.

President Buhari sends his best wishes to Nigerians – Governor Okorocha

President Buhari sends his best wishes to Nigerians - Governor Okorocha
President Buhari with APC leaders in London
On Sunday night, the Presidency posted a photo of President Muhammadu Buhari, the first since he left the country to London on medical vacation.
The presidency said that Buhari met with All Progressives Congress (APC)governors and leaders Sunday afternoon over lunch.
Buhari’s Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) Femi Adesina, in a statement released on Sunday, described Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha‘s experience at the meeting.
In a telephone conversation following the meeting of All Progressives Congress (APC) governors and leaders with President Muhammadu Buhari in London Sunday, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, said the President was very cheerful and has not lost any bit of his sense of humour.
The governor said the party delegation spent more than an hour with President Buhari over lunch, and it was very clear from the discussions that he followed developments at home very closely.
He said the President was delighted to receive the delegation and asked each governor about affairs in his state. He also asked the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, about the state of the railways.
When asked to react to all the negative things being said about him, the President just laughed, describing such negative reports as lies. Governor Okorocha said President Buhari was completely unperturbed by the cocktail of lies. He, instead, sent his best wishes to Nigerians.
According to the governor, Nigerians don’t have to worry at all, adding that President Buhari will be back as soon as the doctors give him the green light.
“By our visit to London today, the merchants of lies have been put out of business and Nigerians will not buy the garbage they have been selling. All those who look up to fake news can find better use for their time,” Governor Okorocha noted.
Governors Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa; Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna; Yahaya Bello of Kogi; and APC National Chairman, John Oyegun, were also in the delegation.

MANAGEMENT MEMO TO ASUU KSU ON PROSCRIPTION

The University Management was today in receipt of a letter from the State Government proscribing the activities of Academic Union of Universities (ASUU), Kogi State University, Anyigba Chapter.

According to the University Management, the directive is sequel to the negative and the unbecoming practices of ASUU KSU which has stalled academic programmes in the University for about 7 months now. Consequently, the future of students is being mortgaged, against the philosophy and good intentions of the present Administration.

The Univ Management, therefore, consider it illegal to hold any meeting of Academic Staff members, under any guise. All members of Academic Staff are by the circular requested to note that they will be treated based on their individual terms and conditions of employment.

The circular further stated that any member of staff that fail to resume and perform his or her duties will be deemed to have voluntarily resigned.

The Chief Security Coordinator (CSC), by a copy of the letter, was requested to monitor and ensure that no illegal meeting, by Academic Staff members, hold under any guise on this campus.

Governor Bello Bans ASUU In Kogi State ,

Bello Bans ASUU In Kogi State

Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello has today announced the banning of the Kogi State Chapter of the Academic staff union of Universities (ASUU), with immediate effect.

Speaking after an emergency State Executive Committee meeting, Bello said, all efforts to make members of the institution see reasons for calling off their over six months old strike action has failed.

Bello said, “Throughout last week, I undertook a tour of the tertiary institutions in Kogi State with a view to having first-hand information about the problems in the schools, but while others have since resumed, ASUU-KSU have refused to call off their strike action.”

According to him, “government have fulfilled over 90 percent of their demand and have gone a step further to pay all outstanding salaries of both cleared and uncleared staff including those that have committed one crime or the other.”

He said this despite the fact that governments decision to shut down the institution led to an increase in violent crimes on Ayingba and its environs, adding that “as a responsible government who has high regard for education as the pillar of the future of the state, we cannot afford to fold our hands and watch the future of our youths mortgaged.”

He, therefore also commanded the striking lecturers to resume work. He said failure to do so will render them jobless in the institution.

The governor also directed the governing council of the University to ensure the security of lives and property, while adding that staff willing to work must not suffer any form of harassment or intimidation.

KSU Management Oders Kogi State University ASUU To Immediately Resume Academic Activities

Management, after a brief meeting this evening wrote a memo to the Chairman, ASUU, KSU Chapter to immediate suspend the about six (6) months old strike to enable members resume academic activities immediately.
It is stated in the memo that Government has made concerted efforts in addressing some the problems that led to the strike action by paying all cleared staff up to March 2017, the latest being the 241 members of staff who were paid between Tuesday, 11th to Thursday, 13th July, 2017, an indication that there is commitment on the part of Government.
As a result of ASUU KSU's failure to listen to His Excellency's plea/appeal, when he visited the institution on Tuesday, 11th July, 2017 and that of His Royal Majesty, Atta Igala and other stakeholders in education, Management has therefore directed the Ag. Provost, College of Health Sciences and Deans of Faculties to monitor the signing of attendance register and performance of duty with immediate effect.
According to the memo signed by the Registrar/
Secretary to Council, failure to resume academic activities by any lecturer will attract "unpleasant consequences".

Africa finally gets unique Internet Domain 25 years after World Wide Web launched

More than three decades after the first domain name was registered, and over 25 years after the World Wide Web launched, Africa finally has its own internet domain fully owned by Africa named ‘DotAfrica’APA reports on Wednesday.
This milestone was announced in Addis AbabaEthiopia, at the 29th ordinary session of the African Union Assembly. The objective of the launch was to mark the commencement of the DotAfrica operational phase by setting up a road show starting at the AU headquarters.
DotAfrica will bring the continent together as an internet community under one umbrella and create an opportunity to forge a unique online identity which will associate products, services and or information with the continent and the people of Africa,” read a communiqué.
The idea of DotAfrica was conceived in 2000 when some African internet professionals argued that DotAfrica should be operated by Africans for the benefit of the entire continent.
Reports say Africa has recorded robust growth with international tourist arrivals and tourism revenues growing at 6 percent and 9 percent respectively each year between 1995 and 2014, over the last two decades.
In its Economic Development in Africa report 2017, the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) said tourism in Africa is a flourishing industry that supports more than 21 million jobs.
The report said tourism attracted capital investment of $26 billion on average in 2011-2014 to the African economy, and that this amount represented 1.8 percent of total GDP of the continent.
It added that international tourist arrivals in Africa increased to 56 million in the period 2011-2014, from 24 million in the previous one (1995-1998) and that the figure is forecast to grow to 134 million by 2030.
Tourism export revenues have more than tripled, increasing from $14 billion to approximately $47 billion, between 1995 and 2014. It is now estimated to contribute about 8.5 percent to the continent’s gross domestic product (GDP).

The Untapped Land In Kogi Alone Can Create Five Lagos Cities, Says Agriculturist

Leonard Ebute, a 38-year-old agriculture entrepreneur and co – founder of Crest Agro Products Limited, says states such as Benue and Kogi that have vast areas of arable land should be lending money to oil-rich states like Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom, if only the government stopped relying on federal allocations alone.

According to Ebute, the untapped land in Kogi State alone can create five Lagos cities.

In an interview with Punch, the young “Agripreneur”, who worked with several blue chip companies before deciding to set up his own agricultural business and now runs a 13-hectare farm in Kogi, Nigeria has no reason to be poor given the enormous export potentials that exists in the Agric sector.

“Today, in terms of production, Nigeria is the fourth largest producer of vegetable in the world; the Netherlands is 26th. But when it comes to export, the Netherlands generates the same revenue from fresh vegetables that Nigeria would generate from oil if we were to be producing 1.2 million barrels per day at $50,” he said.

“How much are we, the number four vegetable producer, generating from export? Zero! Oil sells at around $50 per barrel. The equivalent of a barrel is 137 kilogrammes. Now, 137kg of Irish potatoes is worth around $178, meaning that the amount generated from the sale of a barrel of oil is far lesser than what you will get selling the same quantity of Irish potatoes.

“Why then should Plateau State be poor? That’s the only state in Nigeria where you can produce Irish potatoes between three and four cycles per year.

“Why is Akwa Ibom State proudly an oil-producing state and Plateau State is not prouder as an Irish potato-producing state? The reason is simple — there is zero export, there is zero government focus in converting that value chain into real dollars.

“The way we have petrol dollars, we should also be talking of Irish potato dollars. Mambila Plateau (Taraba State) is also the only place that has the weather required for temperate vegetable crops to grow. It is the most fertile land for growing crops.

“However, 80 percent of Mambila is uncultivated. Rather, the place is owned by a lot of ex-military people. They have farms here and there, but no farming is going on. Those lands hold the key to Nigeria’s economic growth.”

Ebute further said that Benue being “the largest producer of soya bean in Nigeria and the largest producer of cassava in the world”, would continue to wallow in unnecessary poverty.

“Both Benue and Kogi states account for a chunk of all the cassavas produced globally,” he said.

“Talking about soya bean, there is no single farm of soya bean in the whole of Benue State that is up to 10 hectares, which means you cannot mechanise production when the scale is that tiny.

“Soya bean can be produced there strictly for export to make soya dollars, but the government, as it is set up now, does not think that way.

“Now talking about cassava, the local demand for its starch alone is nearly 400,000 metric tonnes per annum whereas the local supply is less than 10,000 metric tonnes. Note that we are not talking about export yet.

“The Middlebelt, which is currently the poorest part of Nigeria, is supposed to be by far the richest. States like Benue should be lending money to Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa states.

“States like Kaduna, Niger, Kogi, Kwara and others around the Guinea Savannah region where almost every crop can grow, should not be talking of poverty. The untapped land in Kogi State alone can create five Lagos cities. Niger State is even worse.”

On the issue of resource control and the agitation by the Niger Delta militants, Ebute said their agitation is justified but that they are going about it the wrong way.

“I agree with the Niger Delta boys that the resources of a place should be controlled by that place, the federal government should only collect royalties and regulate the use of that revenue,” he said.

“Think of it this way: Assuming all the oil revenue produced by Akwa Ibom State resides there, the state would have had the capacity to become another Lagos, meaning that Lagos will not be as congested as it is.

“My only problem, however, with the Niger Delta boys is their approach of agitation. What they are asking for is like a man whose father owns the whole world but is only fighting for bread.

“What they are asking for is juvenile compared to the scope of what they should be asking for, and the manner in which they are making their demands is like a child defecating in his father’s bedroom because the uncle collected the house; by the time the house is finally given to the child, he will have to clean up his mess.

“The Niger Delta boys are bombing pipelines and desecrating the environment, not realising it’s their environment they are messing up. They are saying the oil is their own, but they are destroying the facilities . If something is yours, why would you destroy it? They wouldn’t be fighting with this approach if they realised the oil is theirs.

“Right now, they are worse than politicians and that is why the rest of the world cannot take them seriously because what they are doing is not agitation, it’s a criminal activity.

“Be that as it may, their agitation is genuine because for instance, is the revenue generated by Kano State from groundnut being shared with Bayelsa State? Is the revenue Benue making from soya shared among the other states? Why then should we be sharing oil revenue produced by some among others?

“Why can’t we allow the coastal areas enjoy certain benefits like access to the sea, concentrate the resources there, build mega cities around there so that they too can build their own Lagos?

“Imagine if we have ‘Lagos’ in five places,  Nigeria would have developed and then the governors from the middle belt will stop being lazy and then they will see that they are by far the richest states in Nigeria. What we have (right now in Nigeria) are oil-producing states and others are nothing-producing states. It’s ridiculous.

FULL DETAILS OF KOGI GOVERNMENT, TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS REPS MEETING TO END STRIKE ACTION

The Kogi State Government representatives have met with the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Trade Unions of Tertiary Institutions owned by the State Government, with a view of addressing their grievances in order for them to suspend their industrial actions and reopen the campuses for academic activities.

This is imperative to ensure the future of our students are not jeopardized and to ensure a smooth industrial relations between government and the Trade Unions.

I wish to use this opportunity to applaud the altruistic patriotism towards a better Kogi State as epitomized by the ideologies of the present administration.

Let me bring to the knowledge of the general public, a blow by blow account of government discussions with Trade Unions in order to be fully informed of efforts by both parties to ensure industrial peace on our campuses for the good of our students and our society.

Issue 1
The demand of the Joint Action Committee of our Tertiary Institutions’ Trade Unions that the Kogi State Government should jettison its decision to forcefully retire there members based on the Review Committee’s nomenclature of ‘stagnation’ on one rank for 8 years and above. These categories of staff (Professors, Chief Lecturers, etc.) are the best brains within the system. Moreover, the Law on Retirement Age for the staff of Tertiary institutions is Sacrosanct.

Resolution
Government is yet to accept this recommendation of the Review Committee hence, salaries of staff so categorized have continued to be paid till date. Furthermore, Government is aware of the position of the Laws and the provisions of the Conditions of Service of respective institutions as to retirement age. The issue will therefore be resolved.

Issue 2
That Lecturers who are currently on study leave abroad should be cleared and their salaries paid till date.

Resolution
Lecturers currently on study leave abroad who have undergone provisional screening to confirm their status as recommended by their institutions would be cleared and allowed to access their salaries pending when they physically return to the country.

Issue 3
Government should clear and pay all our members labelled “diaspora workers”, since the status of those affected can be substantiated from their superior officers. It is worthy of note that, the cashless policy of Central Bank of Nigeria encourages cash withdrawal at the point of need rather than carrying cash around. Consequently, cash withdrawal points should not be used to define “diaspora worker”.

Resolution
Innocent staff will not be unjustly classified as diaspora workers.

Issue 4
That government should give a definite date for the refund of excess tax deductions.

Resolution
A joint committee of the Board of Internal Revenue and JAC will meet between the 1st and 16th of April, 2017 to substantiate the claim of excess tax deduction and advise Government accordingly.

Issue 5
That Government’s implementation of the new tax rate in Kogi State was done without consultation with JAC contrary to the 2016 Agreement on the issue.

Resolution
Since the new rate has been implemented with respect to February salaries, Government shall suspend the implementation of the new tax rate for the month of March 2017 while the differential for the month of February 2017 will be refunded in March pending the resolution of all tax issues in April, 2017.

Issue and Resolution 6
It is hereby resolved that the following issues as it affects the institutions shall be and are hereby forwarded to the Governing Councils of the respective institutions for consideration and necessary action:
1. Payment of Earned Allowances of Non-Teaching Staff.
2. Payment of CONTISS 15 lower cadre migration and arrears.
3. Payment of 50% CONTISS arrears.
4. Payment of excess workload allowance for academic staff.
5. Implementation and payment of promotion and annual incremental step and arrears.
6. Review of edict/law establishing the Kogi State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Obagende and Kogi State
College of Health Sciences and Technology, Idah.
7. Implementation of Tertiary Institution Salary Structure for Kogi State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Obagende and Kogi State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Idah.
8. Substantive NBTE accreditation of the various health training department courses offered in the college.
9. Under-placement of Staff of Kogi State College of Education (Technical), Kabba.
10. Use of Internally Generated Revenue in paying all promotions, Incremental steps and arrears.

Issue 7
Kogi State University Teaching Hospital, Anyigba.
a. Employment of more staff to meet the standard of a Teaching Hospital.
b. Upgrading of salary scale to the Teaching Hospital standard.
c. Constitution of Management Board for the Teaching hospital.
d. Provision of Infrastructures and equipment.

Resolution
Government has set up a Committee to look into all issues regarding this institution and report to back to it. The Committee is currently working. Parties shall await the report of the Committee.
Issue 8
Kogi State University, Anyigba
The Government is advised to audit the account of Kogi State University between 2009 and October 2015.
Resolution
This has been commissioned already and it is ongoing.

Issue 9
Government should set up Governing Councils for all Tertiary institutions in Kogi State.

Resolution
This was done in February, 2017.

Issue 10
Government should constitute and send a visitation panel to Kogi State University, Anyigba and other State owned tertiary institutions.

Resolution
The Panel for Kogi State University was set up in February, 2017 while the same Panel will be commissioned to visit other Kogi State owned tertiary institutions.

Issue 11
2015 and 2016 Employment

Resolution
With regards to 2015/2016 employment, Government’s circular No. HCS/KGS/CIR/3/V1516 dated 4/2/2016 has already suspended 2015 and 2016 employment. Government will however take a second look at these employments vis a vis a need assessment report from the Governing Council of each institution.
In the light of all the foregoing, it is hereby mutually agreed that Government and JAC shall work together with a view to moving the educational sector forward in line with the new direction agenda of Governor Yahaya Bello administration.
The Government Team was led by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Edward David Onoja, while the Trade Unions’ Team was led by Comrade Boluromi S.S.
With this all important steps, it is hoped that our students will soon return to their campuses to continue the pursuit of their academic dreams.

– Fanwo Kingsley
Director General to the Governor on Media and Publicity

Kogi State Joint Action Committee of Tertiary institutions has been urged to call off the ongoing strike on liberal grounds.

The Special Adviser to Kogi State Governor on Youth Empowerment, Sport and Students Affairs Hon. MD Eseyin made the appeal in a chat with newsmen.

He said the committee should consider if nothing but almost all their demand painstakingly ascended to by the government and discontinue the industrial action

Eseyin added that the strike action will only worsen the harsh social and economic conditions of the students and attract them to social vices.

He noted that the government of Alhaji Yahaya Bello stand in good stead to  resuscitate the educational sector and build a solid foundation that will stand the test of time.

“Just as no father will be happy to see his child at home so also the governor, despite the economic downturn, he has done unimaginable, obviously from his show of commitment  in spite of unending strike continues to honour subvention to all higher institutions in the state”

“At the just concluded Stakeholders meeting, the governor in his usual character, magnanimously defrayed all academic earn allowance and tax waivers to the turn of 290million” he added

Recall that the Kogi State Joint Action committee embarked on industrial action some months ago to press home their demands for improved workers’ welfare.

Government Will Do Everything To Avert Doctors’ Strike- Kogi Governor

Kogi State Governor, Alh. Yahaya Bello has assured the people of the state that his administration will “do everything within the legal arc to avert industrial action by members of the Nigerian Medical Association, Kogi State Chapter”.
Speaking through his Director General on Media and Strategy, Kingsley Fanwo, the Governor said he will stop at nothing to protect the right of the Kogi citizens to quality healthcare.
“NMA has intimated government of its readiness to go on strike over some issues that bothers on the recently concluded staff verification exercise. But before Government could call for a round table dialogue to listen to their grievances, NMA made their intention public to create an atmosphere of panic.
“The Staff Verification Exercise received the backing of labor. NMA was represented in the exercise and they signed the report, which indicated acceptance by the umbrella body for Medical Doctors in the State. The wisdom behind the inclusion of NMA representative in the screening was to give expert advice and lead the Committee to make informed decisions. For NMA to turn around to condemn the report is a betrayal of agreement and an attempt to condemn the home they joined hands with government in building.
“The decision to unnecessarily punish the Kogi people by going on strike is unfortunate and will be resisted by government. In an era of recession, it is an economic sin against the people to pay workers for doing nothing. We will explore legal and administrative avenues to stop the ill-fated strike.
“As we place an eye on the window for negotiations and diplomatic settlement; this government will place its other eye on the ongoing recruitment process going on in the health sector to bridge any gap which may tend to endanger the healthcare of our people”.
The Governor urged NMA not to declare war on the state, saying their primary responsibility is to save lives and ensure the healthcare of the people of the state.
“Our doors are always open. We will always listen to the unionists. We believe in inclusiveness but we will not hesitate to take drastic decisions that will help the people of our dear state”.
The Governor thanked members of the Nigerian Medical Association for their patience and cooperation with his administration, urging them to seize the cordial relationship between them and the government to explore negotiation as a peaceful means of resolving industrial disputes. He said his administration will continue to work with the doctors to achieve his goals on healthcare for the people of Kogi State.

Doctors In Kogi Down Tools Over Unpaid Salaries

The Kogi chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has directed its members to embark on an indefinite strike over government’s failure to pay doctors’ salaries.
A communique jointly signed by its Chairman, Dr. Tijani Godwin, and Secretary, Dr. Zubair Kabiru, after an emergency congress on Tuesday in Lokoja, said that the strike would commence on Wednesday.
The NMA expressed disappointment over government’s inability to pay the doctors’ salaries and arrears as agreed two months ago, and wondered why it was difficult for government to fulfill basic commitments.
“We have presented our demands to government, but none has been met; we are left with no other option than to go on strike,” the association said.
The medical doctors frowned at government’s refusal to clear nine doctors during the screening exercise even after they provided all necessary documents, and also decried the consistent deductions in their salaries and arrears.
The association advised doctors intending to pick up employment with the Kogi Government to be “very cautious” as many of their colleagues were owed huge sums.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the NMA embarked on a warning strike in December, 2016 but suspended the action after government promised to pay their salaries.
Government, however, reneged on that promise, forcing the doctors to abandon the hospitals again.

THE BENEFITS OF STRIKE TO STUDENTS BY ONOJA JOHNSON BABA

Dear Nigerian Students,

It is not a glorious thing to discuss strike. It also seems nonsensical to think that strike, which disrupts cademic activities, slow down graduation, NYSC mobilization and what have you, can in any way be beneficial to any student. Strike is evil and pestilent, to say the least. However, our ability to see opportunity amidst danger and challenges like strike is what  makes us creative, smart and wise as youngsters.

Of course, strike has become a house hold name in this part of the world. It is and endemic that its end in Nigeria does not seem near. It comes up every now and then in our higher public institutions. This is for the fact that the people at the helm of affairs hardly keep their children with us in an educational system they have rubbished with their hands and thus denigrated.

Not helping matter is the lingering economic recession in the country. No doubt, many state universities are bound to plunge into strike soon as more States are owing salary arrears.

Considering the  occurrence and recurrence of strike actions, it has become pertinent for us to begin to device means of making the best out of strike at any point or level it hits us as students.

You see, no body teaches you how you can plan your life in school so you must teach yourself, internalized and exercise it. It is deadly in this technological and skill driven society to think that your certificate is most important. The certificate will surly come and of course you know that many have gotten it and like you, many will still get. Base on this fact, skills have become the key as it give a holder lots of values and edge over others.

Strike is like a break, while it lasts, every wise student would think of something to do to add value to his/her life. Passing time with social media or television is not the best. The best is going out there to engage yourself productively.

I have discovered that many graduates get into skill acquisition and vocational training after graduating from school amidst the tensity of the life after school. Why can’t students consider all these before leaving the school. If you already have something before leaving the school, then you have saved the time of starting afresh after school. Your next step after school would be to set the ball of your business rolling as fast as possible.

Any break from school should be seen as an opportunity to get into different endeavors that would be of help in the future. Gone are the days when students would sit at homes leaving their future at the mercy of a governor or one man that does not feel your pains a bit. Don’t leave your life to chance. Take the responsibility of whatever you make out of your life.

Is your school on strike, thank God, it is time for you to go and acquire that skill. It is time for you to tryout that business or idea. Remember that if you can’t confront your fears, you can’t conquer it.

Whatever you learn over the strike period will remain with you, it could be what you may have to start with after school. It could even start fetching you little pay when you get back to your studies.  It is time to Sit-up and wise-up…

Best Regards.

WHEN KOGI VARSITY LECTURERS, GOVERNMENT LOCK HORNS

It is glaring that the Kogi State University students have always suffered the consequential effect of the frictions that has engulfed the state governmentand the lecturers in recent times.

The popular adage that says when two elephant fights the grass suffers is a quintessential example of what has played out in the confluence state in the last three years.

Kogi State University (KSU) lecturers and the state government have comfortably acted the role of the elephant, while the students have unavoidably played the role of the grass.

The academic staff union of University (ASUU), Kogi State University chapter had cumulatively embarked on a Nine months industrial action and still counting over the last three years. The interminable industrial action has become the hallmark of the institution, and unarguably, this has placed KSU as one of the top institutions in Nigeria that suffer from a continuous industrial action.

The reason for the actions of the striking union is not farfetched, is basically anchored on Non-Payment of salaries and other dividends for several months.

This intermittent down tool has left the university with no concrete academic calendar.

Disruptions in academic programs in higher institution serve as a non-motivational factor tothe students. It discourages them from learning. It is not surprising therefore that during strike actions, most students are seen involved in diverse activities such as sexual immorality, cyber scam, pool betting, unnecessary gossips, watching of films and reading comic materials for entertainment purposes rather than reading their books.

In the long run, they soon forget about academics and are no longer prepared for class activities which negatively affect their learning capability.

Conspicuously, the relationship between the Governor Yahaya Bello led administration and ASUU is completely paradoxical to that of Late Prince Abubakar Audu the founder of the institution and the union.

The down tool ASUU embarked in 2015 is still taking its toll on the institution as  students that graduated from Theatre Art, and Economics department in that year are yet to be mobilized for the compulsory one year national youth service. While their counterpart from other institution have completed the program. Also, the second semester result for some level in the same year is still pending.

In 2016, the union embarked on yet another action between April to July, as most expected the academic calendar was affected.  Students were compelled to resume immediately after the New Year celebration for their second semester examination with less time to prepare.

Barely two days after the conclusion of the second semester examination the Joint Action Committee (JCC) comprising of all the tertiary Institutions in the state, embarked on an indefinite strike. JCC demanded for the immediate reconstruction of governing council in all institution, and the payment of eight months arrears of salaries to all categories of staff.

While most tertiary institution has completed their first semester for the 2017/2018 academic session kogi state university is yet to begin.

Education is a right and not a privilege, therefore, the Government should always endeavor to honor whatever agreement reached with the academic communities.

The protracted strikes that have forcibly kept KSU students outside the four walls of the university can be averted if necessary steps are taken to build a good relationship between both parties. It is worth emphasizing that any government with a poor education system is heading towards a black future.

At the same time, the striking unions of higher should device other means other than strike to resolve aggrieved issues. Strike action should always be the last resort. This is because of the negative effect frequent strikes have on students and the entire academic community.

KOGI GROUP DEMANDS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF TAOFIK ISA

BEING A WORLD PRESS CONFERENCE ADDRESSED BY THE PRESIDENT, KOGI INTEGRITY GROUP (KIG), BARRISTER ZACCHAEUS DARE MICHAEL, DEMANDING THE IMMEDIATE AND UNCONDITIONAL  RELEASE OF KOGI ALGON CHAIRMAN, HON. TAOFIK ISA, IJUMU LGA ADMINISTRATOR
Gentlemen of the press, we invited you here today to address the world on the illegal arrest and detention of the Kogi State ALGON Chairman/Ijumu LGA Administrator, Hon Taofik Isa, by the Nigerian Police.

The entire coalition of youths which encompasses all the youths and students’ bodies in Kogi west senatorial district in collaboration with Kogi Integrity Group, hereby demand the immediate release of Hon Taofik Isa.

We want to state here categorically that the assassination attempt on Dino Melaye upon which the ALGON chairman was arrested and detained was totally wrong and dehumanizing because Hon Taofik was just one of the numerous political rivalry in the state that Dino has labeled as his foe.

This was a man who posted on his facebook wall about three months ago that he foresaw the same Hon Taofik and the Chief of Staff to Kogi Governor, Edward Onoja, in a beautiful prison uniforms.

Should this kind of person raise an allegation and be taken seriously?  Corroborating Dino’s statement on his facebook wall with the recent assassination attempt on his life as he claimed, one can easily conclude that the alleged attacked was orchestrated.

The question that Nigerians should ask Senator Dino Melaye is that why did he come home with over 10 fairy looking fully armed police officers? Why did he lodge them in a far distance hotel while he has enough room in his house that could accommodate security men?

While the attack was on, why did Dino not put a call through to the officers even when he claimed that the attack lasted for over one hour?

The entire people of Kogi State and indeed Nigeria at large are not unaware of Dino’s numerous antecedents in thuggery, rascality, public nuisance, flamboyancy, and other unethical and unthinkable behavior.

We urge Dino to concentrate on the national assignment which is the mandate that has been given to him, to bring dividends of democracy to his people as his other colleagues in the senate have been doing in their respective constituencies.

And if he felt that his antecedents in the state can never earned him second term ticket due to his poor representation of his people in the senate, we think the best thing for him to do is to retrace his step rather than engaging in an unending battle with everybody.

However, in as much as the youths did not want to interrupt the ongoing investigation on the alleged assassination attempt on Dino, we demand that the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to immediately order the release of Hon Taofik or charge him to court because his continous detention violate his fundamental human right.

The Senators are elected to make laws for the people of Nigeria, but it is disheartening that some of them are abusing that position, and using it as a medium to witch-hunting their perceived political enemies without recourse to the rule of law.
