Over thirty schools drawn from different parts of Kogi State participated in this year’s Children’s Day celebrations in Lokoja.
Governor Yahaya Bello, represented by his Deputy, Elder Simon Achuba assured Kogi children of his administration’s avowed commitment to child-related issues – qualitative education, curbing infant mortality and ensuring that they grow up to enjoy a safe and prosperous Kogi state.
In her speech, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Bolanle Amupitan stated that the Yahaya Bello-led administration has continued to accord top priority to the development and advancement of children in all areas, especially in the area of education, health and social welfare.
“The Governor has since coming to office in January 2016 taken deliberate and pragmatic steps to ensure children of school age are in school. He has severally warned parents against using their wards to hawk while they are supposed to be in school.
“Kogi State under His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello is not leaving any stone unturned to build a Kogi where children will grow in an atmosphere where they can dream, achieve their dreams and live their dreams.
“We inaugurated the children parliament to provide a functional platform whereby children can also contribute their thoughts on matter concerning them.
“Effort is at top gear to see that Kogi state has a Juvenile remand home where children who are in conflict with the law could be remanded and their orientation redirected.
“We launched the Operation Feed Them Nutritiously (OFTeN) to give food supplements milk to children of the less privilege of the orphanages.
The alma mata of Kogi State Governor, Okene Central Community Secondary School, Agassa; Deputy Governor, Commercial Community Secondary School, Idah; Hon. Bolanle Amupitan, ECWA Secondary School, Mopa; Arc. Abdulmumini Okara, AMCO, Okene and Hon. Tolorunleke’s alma mata, Titcombe College, Egbe all participated in the colourful event that featured march past, dancing competition, cultural display, choreography and dance drama.
