We could recall that in our last publication by Ogiri Cosmos; Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Kogi State
University Chapter where urged to suspend their industrial action by the Governor of the State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello at a meeting with the leadership of the union.
The Acting Chairman of ASUU in the Kogi State University, Comrade Gbenga Aina in his promises assured the Governor that the Union will go back to the negotiation table to give consideration to his call.
Currently they exist claims and counter claims that some political dons in kogi state are bent on frustrating Yahaya Bello's administration. But the Acting ASUU chairman has refuted such claims that the Industrial Action is politically motivated and in fulfilling his promise, the union met yesterday in Natural Sciences to deliberate on the reports and plea from the state Governor.
The meeting which was graced by many lecturers with optimism for good news but later saw a bunch of dissatisfied lecturers amidst the current economic situation in Nigeria.
The question is for how long shall we continue to beg, take loans and buy on credits to eat, feed the family, pay bills, masters fee e.t.c?
It is a truism that the current administration is now owing the university lecturers but government is one which has continuity as its characteristic. If not then, they is no hope for the lecturers who worked to get paid.
The farmers in Kogi State are reaping and smiling to this years cashew boom but not Kogi State University lecturers.
In consideration of the Governor's plea, sincerity and truth is a steadfast. ASUU started their meeting but Ended In Deadlock and meeting adjoined.
Reports says the Terms Offered by the State Government was not Favourable To members of ASUU.
