In this exclusive interview, Catchfaya speaks about his
versatility, passion, his take on the Nigerian music industry andpreparations to take his game to the next level.
EXCERPTS...Raj: May we meet you?
Catchfaya: Am Ahmed Yusuf Danjuma popularly known as Catchfaya... Am a final year law student of Kogi state university. Am from ankpa, abache to be precised, am based in portharcourt, was actually born and brought up in portharcourt....
Raj: Take me back to the beginning. When and how did you start off as an artiste?
Catchfaya: Hmmmmmmmm...like seriously?....ok,it all started in my days of been a fresher in ksu, tho have always loved watching people do the entertainment thing back then in my secondary school(in port harcourt)...but it got serious when I gained admission into ksu, even before then its football i love playing the most ,people that knows me right from my childhood days will even be suprise when they hear my songs or that am a musician now because I never thought I will take it this serious... ok, on how I start, it all started when my bestie (phatprince) asked me to back him up at the stage when we were in 200Level, we actually perform a song he did with his music mate(L'eo) in makurdi title NO YAU YAU, I really love that song, we did perform the song that night and we killed the show to my own knowledge, after the whole thing has gone down, I started getting advice from the audience that did watch the show that night, they said that I should kick start my career from this moment, I went back home with phatprince and told him, he said the same thing to that I should start doing music, the next day now happen to be ‘dangana award night’ and I was able to win Mr fresher and best dressed... the mc was like ''this guy self even sabi dress pass all the ksu artist wai dey perform here since and en no b artist o'' that stuff gingered me up again, and I spoke to phatprince about wanting to record a jam and he said we should go to makurdi, that was where I record my hit track CATCH FAYA''' u dey for club CAtCH FAYA...that's how the music thing started...yeah.
Raj: Quickly, tell us the kind of music you do and genre of your music.
Catchfaya: The kinda music I do?....I do afro pop but work mostly on dance hall....
Raj:. Who are your intended audience and why should they listen to your kind of music?
Catchfaya: The people on earth of course, and they should listen to my kinda music bcos music is life and I spit lifely words in the songs I do... My music is for the old & young.
Raj: What influence your lyrics or what inspires you to write or produce the kind of music you do?
CatAchfaya: The things around me and the things I do influence my lyrics the most and the kinda producer I work with tends to inspire me and the things I encountered as well tends to inspire the kinda music I do....
Raj: What difference are you out to make in the music industry?
Catchfaya: Simple,do good musics with good concepts.
Raj: Is it so tough to combine your studies with your passion(music)?
Catchfaya: Sure it is, because law can't be merge with entertainment, it is not possible,itz been God all through for guiding me to this stage
Raj: So how far are you planning to take your career?? Is it that you want to be a lifetime artiste or you gone switch to being a lawyer?
Catchfaya: Omo let God design my future for me oh, because for am not even thinking of the law thing, just wanna do music and take it to d highest height as long as am alive...but d law thing I can't really tell for now...
Raj:. Who are the top Naija artistes or producers you are looking forward to work with?
Catchfaya: Will call just 4 names....
Wizkid, davido,.....producers, Donjazzy, D'tunes...
Raj: What’s your take on many new music that lacks messages that now filled the airwaves?
Catchfaya: I don't criticize, any artist that is not passing one or two messages will not be where he is at the moment, the fact that what someone is saying that dosnt make sense may be reasonable to another person... so everybody is passing a message in one way or the other...
Raj: Many young artistes have made it and lost. What are your plans to avoid you going the same route?
Catchfaya: You encounter such when you are not consistent..... you must work with the trend...
Raj: What’s the passion that drives you?
Catchfaya: The life style in music is what drives me crazy....yeah...
Raj: What are you currently working on?
Catchfaya: Am working on my documentary for now. my AMR documentary....its called.... “AMR Documentary The Show Off”.
Amr documentary the show off has to do with the bringing out of the name to the people out there who seems to have no idea about this label, shirts are to b put on by those that are going to appear on the video, coz its going to be covered. the main thing about this documentary is just to let people know what am trying to come up with...that's all....
I have three artiste signed to AMR already. Tosyno, kaydee and mokej
since amr is not really known to 9ja, we taking it slow. Am really working on somthing big that will bring out my artis.
Raj: Getting to Know Catchfaya Let’s talk a bit more personal. Are you into any relationship?
Catchfaya: Omo this dude wan coba me o...lol ...I don't have a gf and don't wana talk abt it..... catch faya is a very easy going person, luvz fashion, I love my fans, love those dat lovez me, love reading books that concerns my kinda person.
Raj: Ok. Tell us about your family background, I heard your parents are rich.
Catchfaya: Lol....na packagin I dey o...my parents are nat rich bro...........we just on a normal level tryin to survive...that's all I can say...
Raj: How do you dress for an event or show, do you have a special stylist or you do the dressing your self?
Catchfaya: I just like making sure all my wears are what people will talk about when am on stage even b4 they hear my music and am a stylish myself, I do tell people what to wear to stage, I dress myself bro..
Raj:. So what's you favorite colour, designer and your favourite meal??
Catchfaya: My favorite color is black , My favorite designer is billionaire.
And my favourite meal is indomie n egg... Aboki Sanusi don spoil me. Lol.
Raj: Nice one, I think we are done for the day. But before we go any final words to your fans and artist that are also climbing the ladder with you??
Catchfaya: Have no much words to say...just be real, focus, say what is supposed to be said at the right time....look good, spend money on your outfit, don't ever embrace that habit of begging producers for free production and learn to take advice, also always have it in mind that learning is a continuous process

N finally I will like to Thank almighty God for giving me such an understanding brother...he has really contributed to my music career and my school as well, cos if nt 4him I won't see money to use in giving producers and to by wears...God bless him jor... big ups….
