REPORTS FROM KSU ASUU STRIKE INTERVENTION COMMITTEE

The Intervention Committee set up to intervene and resolve the ongoing KSU ASUU strike under the Chairmanship of Rt. Hon. Umar A. Imam, Speaker Kogi State House of Assembly met Monday 11th July.Representatives of both the government and ASUU presented their points and what in their opinion they feel is the way forward and panacea to ending the strike. The meeting was very successful and the House of Assembly leadership led by Rt. Hon. Umar A. Imam was to present the template for resolving the strike to His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, Executive Governor of Kogi State that Monday evening but the official engagement of His Excellency that has on avoidably kept him outside the state prevented the meeting as planned.Consequent upon Governor Yahaya Bello's interest and commitment to seeing that the strike comes to an end, he shelved some of his scheduled official engagements to meet with the Assembly leadership. The meeting started yesterday 13th July and will be hopefully concluded this evening 14th July, 2016.The Committee is hopeful that by tomorrow, everything possible will be put in place for ASUU to call off the ongoing KSU strike to enable students resume next week Monday.Chairman of the Intervention Committee, Rt. Hon. Imam plead with students to exercise a little more patience as both government and ASUU will soon reach a common ground. The Committee therefore call on all students involved in the ongoing protest to return back to their homes in the interest of the innocent commuters and the people of Kogi State in general.— NIHI (For The Intervention Committee)From Odaudu Joel Minister wall.

LIVE UPDATES: Kogi State University Students Protest

By- Promise Emmanuel- Live from Lokoja

The Students are in mixed moods of jubilation and frustration as placards and other forms of protest images are swung left, right and about in the ongoing students protests at Kogi State capital, Lokoja. Many other students are joining up. Aluta songs are in flaring decibels.
Few minutes ago, The Commissioner of Police, Yakubu Usman. SSG to the Governor, Mrs. Folashade Ayoade and Commissioner for Education J.S Tolorunleke just left the scene of protests as students remained avid in their request of meeting only the state Governor, Yahaya Bello.
We also just got wind of ASUU' delegates being on their way to Lokoja. According to the Student Union Government President' Comrade Philip Omepa, the invitation was to show clearly that Students are not protesting against anybody or taking sides as what they want for both parties to return to negotiation table.
The Public Relations Officer of SUG, Comrade Cosmos Ogiri, lamented the missed signals the protest might be sending, he however assured all watchers that the SUG only wants the school to be settled for academic activities. He said "anybody that would think we haven't been patient for 3 good months doesn't have a conscience. What do we have to do? Just what?!", he lamented.
A student at the site of protest, Enema Ilemona also lent his opinion on the issue, he remarked "This is the first time in my life I think we have an SUG. The fact is that both Government and ASUU have their own facts and points, but what is our own point?", he said.
Another demonstrator said "It's high time Lecturers and Government realise that we are not immovable objects. They've been tossing us up and down to side with them with their persuasive positions. We are tired, we can't side anybody. Government has tried, ASUU too have tried. We only want to resume and graduate", he said.
At the time of filing this report, the demonstration is relatively peaceful as law enforcement agents are also present to monitor the situation. However, nothing has been heard from the Governor as Lokoja goes into flame of different mix of Aluta songs.

Kogi State University P.R.O Cosmos Ogiri Emmanuel Reply To Ebira Reporters

At about this afternoon Ebria reporters posted a news with the headline "ASUU, Kogi State University Strike: Complicity of SUG"

which The P.R.O referred to as defaming to his personality, which he then wrote a reply letter in response to the news.

Promise Emmanuel, Integrity Onoja and Egbira Reporters trying to do Sahara reporters with my name? Well, I will play cool but JUSTICE will prevail because even public apologies cannot correct the wrong of DEFAMATORY STATEMENTS which is actionable per say.

These set of people have been spreading my name all-over the internet that "Government House" initiated a cheque of N400,000 to me Ogiri Emmanuel Cosmos.

Well, I wouldn't want to say much, but wannabes (Sahara reporters) the said cheque, let me use their own terms:

The name of the INITIATOR is on the exact place you see a thumb on- hiding the identity of the person who owns the cheque. This is printed on it, customised on every single cheque in Nigeria.

Then the Government House this journalists saw and termed it the INITIATOR is actually the address where the bank is located in the lokoja. The cheque is from Daimond bank, which part of its address is ....close to government house.

We have only one diamond which is close to zenith bank a stone throw to government house.

Do you now understand? They said they tried to reach me and my Facebook account has no activity, oh really, if I want to send you a message need I check if you are online or not. Egbira reports has my email, no email was sent to me.

So to clear the air, their so called INITIATOR is the address where the bank is located at. The name of the person who gave me the cheque is covered with a thumb. The cheque was ne'er anything to do with Students Union Government.

Let no one plant discord between us. Thanks to all those who stood by me. I can not fail you for a token and when I fail I will apologize and learn fast, isn't that what have been keeping us?.

Presently there have been lots of issues on Facebook blowing up from the incidence on.

Asuu Strike: Kogi State University SUG President Philip Omeipha Speaks On Cancelling The Planned Protest Till Further Notice

SUG Prsident Philip Shaibu Omepa posted this on his facebook timeline yesterday :

"Good morning my fellow students. The wave of hope blew towards us immediately after the tribunal case when the governor himself during the press interview told the
general public and the students that in less than 10 days the
issue will be resolved and we will get back to our various classes. I couldn't believe this since they have made several promises in d past so I had to make contacts to his various
appointees and aides and we were assured that d governor has decided to make d university his priority and they are making arrangements to pay and that the notification for the protest actually got to d desk of his excellency the
governor. Now in view of this, u will all believe me all we want is how this strike issue will be resolved within a short time so we can get back to class.

So it has been deliberated
and agreed by the students union government that the protest which is slated to be 9th in anyigba will no longer hold but if government fails to keep up their 10 days demand, we all will be matching to lugard house on 16th of dis month I.e next week Thursday which I believe by then the 10 days promised might have elapsed.

I want to urge every student that we re working in one spirit for the betterment of our own institution and SUG is there in dis administration to be close to students, stand and fight for
their right. We also want to thank every student for their patience and understanding with us. We are fighting for same cause.

Thank you all. (A message from) COMRADE
PHILIP SHAIBU OMEPA (08050476454)"
