How To Know Who To Vote, Kogi State University As A Case Study - By Cosmos Ogiri

Kogi State University is a tertiary institution of learning in Kogi State. I was admitted to Kogi State University in the year 2011. From 2011 till date we have had Students Union Leaders everyone despite disruptions. These set of leaders left different lessons to study and come up with a broad but a guiding fact to knowing who to vote for in an election.
Before you would say I have no rights to speak on who to vote in an election. I passed through same fact and I was the Public Relations Officer in one of those sets of leaders that left one or two lessons to serve as a case study in students unionism.
1. Background of Responsiblities handled in the past. Let's do a research on whom to vote. What is the background of responsibilities handled and what is the performance rate. Was he a class representative? What is majority of those represented saying?
2. Responsible lifestyle is a factor of knowing who best to vote. Just like it is said that "you are addressed the very way you dress" same why it is true that someone's mentality and behavior affects his sense of lifestyle. Ask around and don't fall for physical outfit.
3. Responsiveness to other people's issues. Yes! This is very important. How many selfless programs have this candidate attended or organised. Is he in any none governmental organization to provide platforms for selfless humanitarian response? This is very paramount. A leader who is not responsive to selfless service is only going there for selfish services when elected.
Above is not all but just a three point to guide you. Further more I want us to elaborate while narrowing to Kogi State University.
4. Popularity: this is very deceitful and so many persons have used this as a yieldstick to knowing who to vote in an election. People became popular for bad reasons as well as good reasons. Which one is this person we are going to vote.
5. Profession: Employing a doctor for been intelligent as a lawyer is the fastest way to kill public sanity. Everyone can become a politician but let's the fact be said that profession is all about the mentality. That's why a Doctor can perform well as Governor of a state and a political scientific may not have the professional mendate to perform better than a management graduate who is also good in public affairs and management.
6. Level of Desperate, those desperate to become leaders as proved in the past that a lot promises was made but none was accomplished. So be mindful of those that are ready to do everything to elected.
7. Level of commitment. What is the level of commitment to the plight of the immediate community and what was the contribution of such a person?
8. Mission, an aspirant that has no clear mission in either a single word or in a single sentence is a wrong note.
9. Calibre of supporters and interest. This is nail. Hit this hard. We all know what God fathers are? What are their interest? For the students or for their self?
What has these Godfathers done for students welfarism? If na juju this one must stop abeg.
10. Powers from above, be very smart in checking to know who the management and government is supporting so you won't vote in school fee increment. Sponsored candidate always come with an agenda.
Only a final note I don't know it all. Let's learn from the past and make our today the best we can make out of it.

#IDontLikeWhatIHate, Resigned Ksu SUG PRO Cosmos Ogiri Breaks Silence - Ask For Reasons For The Delay In SUG/Nakoss Elections

Kogi State University Former SUG PRO who is known to be controversial and has in the time past raise up to topics in the SUG unions that created a buzz and saga around campus which everyone talked about for long. This time around he Is looking for answers to what is delaying a new sug/Nakoss election as the semester is getting to an end already.

Read below what he wrote....

"I really want to start analyzing the actions of the Nigerian Federal Governments and the opportunity cost of its actions and inactions with the hash tag #iDontLikeWhatiHate but then as a young man with conscience and a Christian I ask my self if I have the moral justifications to air my voice on the activities of another man's leadership style? Not forgetting so soon how the little opportunity given to me in the Students Union Government was handled. It was one of fights, counter actions and what have you - public show of shame. But that was necessary in the past, two wrongs can't make a right! One of the parties must had a genuine cause of action while the other party must be totally wrong. Two right tools can't be on a logger head and achieve nothing. One must be wrong, the other must be right.

Time is already telling on us, we beginning to know those who where real enemies of the struggle. Need I remind myself that uptill this moment as I pen down my worries that no election have been held in Kogi State University to bring new EXCOS into mother unions of the institution?

What could be the problem? In NAKOSS, aspirants have paid and bought forms for offices and first semester is almost ending. Where is their money? In whose pocket is it? Why hasn't they been election into the SUG and NAKOSS? Who is holding unto the power and for what reason is the person doing so? Why is the populace not reacting?

All these questions have cleared my conscience and I will boldly let time tell us more we need to know. I will let time heal, time speaks volumes and with time I shall regain my moral justifications to unleash my provocation on the present day Nigeria Government via #iDontLikeWhatiHate analysis of the actions of the Nigerian Federal Government and the opportunity cost of its actions and inactions.
Together, we can."

Please Debunk Any News Stating That There Will Be A Protest On The 24th Of April, That Is Another Big Deceit Awaiting. - KSU SUG Acting President Anthony Edogbo

Great Nigerian students!
I wish to first of all thank all students and stakeholders of Kogi state University for the continuous support to the Students' Union Government, amidst all the betrayal. The greatest sin against humanity is to thwart the effort of the majority. I really sympathise with you all, and I commend your patience.
Over the past few weeks, a lot has happened. A lot of propaganda has been on social media, a lot of deceit, betrayal, and a lot of lies from our student union leaders. Our leaders have obviously failed.

But as acting SUG president, I am promising every student that this is a new dawn.
We are now going to build the Students' Union Government where your dues count, where your rights are protected and where your common welfare is guaranteed.

Never again will the right and interest of any student of Kogi state university be sold out.
For this short period, we shall from now advocate for proper conditions and treatment from our classrooms to the hostels. We shall advocate for immediate intervention with regards to water and power supply in our school.

From now on, every single naira of the Students' Union Government shall be accounted for.

We have stayed home for too long.
The plight of the students suffering at home for the past three months is my greatest worry.

The ongoing strike is our greatest terror now, and making sure we get back to class as soon possible is our biggest priority right now. This, we shall fight for with all sincerity and diplomacy.

We are already partnering all institutions in the state to have the biggest peaceful demonstration/protest ever. This mega demonstration is slated for Wednesday, 26th April, 2017 at Lokoja, as agreed at the Joint Campus Congress held on 20th April, 2017.
Please debunk any news stating that there will be a protest on the 24th of April. That is another big deceit awaiting.
This is our right and we are not going back on our decision.

I urge every student of KSU to come out and support this peaceful protest.
Once again, I thank all our students for their patience, support and cooperation.
No more Facebook governance.
No more permutation governance.
No more April fooling.
This is the dawn of a new era.
This is the government of the students, by the students, and for the students, ONLY.
Thanks and God bless.

THE STUDENT UNION GOVERNMENT KSU, ANYIGBA CRISES. THE ISSUE SO FAR AND MY CONTRIBUTION. - By Okolo Gabriel Papa

Please you guys should read what Okolo Gabriel Papa (SUG Senate Chief Whip) has to say about the Former SUG President Philip Omepa.

THE STUDENT UNION GOVERNMENT KSU, ANYIGBA CRISES. THE ISSUE SO FAR AND MY CONTRIBUTION.

The crises in the Student Union Govt, KSU, Anyigba has been on before the first strike action and still on till this one. But, I will not waste your time to go into stories of how it started, how handled it to this moment for the interest of the students and how the student where taken as fools. But, Comr. Shaibu Philip Omepa the former SUG president and Usman Husseini Attaja the Speaker/JCC Chairman kogi state axis knows the part I played to keep the union going and to curtail the crises and I must say I appreciate their maturity and respect to let issues go after my intervention.
Now the main issue. Between yesterday and today I have received several calls from different people who are either supporting the impeachment of Philip, against it or those who are neutral as the case may be. Some said if you guys supported Philip and contributed to him becoming the president of the union why the Impeachment. Some even went as far as saying why destroy him, some said its too late and I tell them I will answer your questions at the right time and now i want to set the record straight.
When the issue of bribery, forgery and deceit was raised against the ex president Philip Omepa I decided to say anything till I do my fact finding, then I started receiving calls from different Senators of the Union that Philip has taken the students for granted and it's high time he's impeached for a capable hand to take over so that the students can go back to class, I told them, give me 24hours I will see what I can do to resolve this and immediately I called Philip to ask him what the issue was which he explained to me and I told him what will be good for him and the students, in the evening of that day myself and Philip still had a long conversation on Facebook and I told him call the Speaker to a round table and iron out issues with him on what you have been doing, if you feel you are innocent of the allegations so far make him understand so that the Speaker can talk to the Senators and other students then we can all strategies on how to end the lingering strike for the interest of the students, he agreed with me and we called it a day. I waited for him to act on our discussion which he never did and the 24hours was over, so I had to beg for another 6hours to think of a way forward and when I was done, to clear my conscience I sent him a text which he didn't reply neither did he call back because he felt he was powerful and nothing can happen to him nor his office. But, where he's getting such courage from I don't know, all I know is he is being deceived by an enemy who pose as a friend to destroy him. After waiting for his (Philips) call or reply to no avail I decided to forget about him and do my own investigations before the call from the senators will come so I will know what to tell them, I did and I got the information I needed. The next morning which was yesterday, I was in my house washing my cloths when I saw the Speaker in company of about 23 Senators that came to call me for the sitting, then I felt there no longer trust me and that was why they came so we can go together because I was asking for more time from them all the while with no positive result and the people around said give them the Mace and let them go which I refused saying it's against my oath of office so, i told them to wait that we will leave together, while I was about bathing to leave with the Senators, I received a message from the Chief Security Coordinator that Philip reported me and accused me of wanting to take the mace outside the school for sitting which the CSC asked if it was right and advised I shouldn't do that, then I knew Philip was not sincere and he was playing a game because he feels he is untouchable. I had my bath took my mace and left with the Senators to the security unit where we met the CSC absent and we drop a letter for him notifying him of our sitting before heading to Arts and Humanities faculty for the sitting and impeachment of Philip Omepa proper. To those who asking questions about what happened, I hope I have answered your questions and if you are not satisfied call me for more clarifications. Thank you all and God bless you.
Long live SUG KSU.
Long live Kogi State University. Long live Kogi State.
Long live Nigeria.

The naked truth: JCC, A TOOL USED BY THE GOVERNMENT TO TRUNCATE THE 24TH PLANNED STUDENTS PROTEST. - By Abdulslimzy Maiyaki

AbdulSlimzy Maiyaki shared this post below On his Facebook timeline.

"The naked truth: JCC, A TOOL USED BY THE GOVERNMENT TO TRUNCATE THE 24TH PLANNED STUDENTS PROTEST.

information reaching me now that the JCC chairman Usman Hussain Ataja and other unscrupulous students bodies received the sum of N3,000, 000 (three million naira) from KOGI STATE GOVERNMENT (the other room) to frustrate the joint planned protest on the 24th April by the STUDENTS UNION GOVERNMENT (KSU AND NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF KOGI STATE STUDENTS (KSU) in collaboration with the SENATE ARM OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA STUDENTS (NANS).

The said amount was issued after a meeting with the newly appointed SSA to Kogi state governor on student matters Mr omonu Joshua (Levels man) at the global hotel along Army barracks road lokoja on Wednesday, which was just a day to the kangaroo JCC CONGRESS held at lokoja where the controversial and purported SHAIBU PHILLIPS OMEPA impeachment/suspension was masterminded.

It will be recall that earlier March this year the JCC Kogi axis invited the factional NANS president comrade Aruna kadiri along with the National NAKOSS president paid the governor visit on a fact finding mission which resulted in the jcc and NANS collection of N2,000 000 (two million naira) and instigated the students against their lecturers as he said that " the lecturers are the ones selfish because they're at home receiving their salary while the students are at home suffering" this he said, even when he didn't care to hear from the angle of the lecturers and claimed they came for fact finding mission.

However, there are questions arising from the eligibility and authenticity of Usman Hussain Ataja's status as the JCC chairman as he's said to have already graduated from school even at the point of contest. Questions are also asked as to why he did not question the activities of Shaibu Phillips Omepa when he was SUG KSU SPEAKER even before he becomes JCC CHAIRMAN.

it's now obvious that it's as a result of the bribe he received and expression for further negotiations that he has chosen to protest on 26th which is almost no different from the planned students protest on 24th. This is also the reason why he insisted that instead of protesting, ultimatum should rather be given to the government for now not minding the effort that has been made in the past.

Nonetheless, letters of notification for the April 24th peaceful students protest as been served to the necessary security agencies and you're therefore invited to part of this great demand for your educational right because it's no longer about Philip but about every son and daughters of this great state.

Aluta continuer till Victoria asartta.

[ksu Asuu Strike Update]I Will Never Respect You Till I Die, KSU SUG President Tells PDP NYF Coordinator

The Kogi State University Student Union Government (SUG) president, Comrade Shaibu Philips Omepa has vowed never to show any form of respect to the Peoples Democratic Party National Youth Frontier (PDP NYF) Coordinator, Comrade Usman Okai Austin.

Omepa made this known while reacting to a story posted by Comrade Usman on his facebook time line, yesterday.

The story which borders on an alleged corruption practices between the state government and the students unions leaders in the state's higher institutions, was greeted with reactions from several flowers of the PDPNYF coordinator.

"The obvious romance of the student bodies, whose executives are now placed on monthly allowance of between 100,000 naira to 150,000 naira monthly, with the state government to truncate and frustrate efforts of the staffers of various institutions towards achieving their legitimate demands.” The PDPNYF cordinator alleged.

Registering his disappointment and anger towards the accusation, Omepa stated that all what Usman said were nothing but lies. He then posed a question that what if they (SUG) protests, how would the allegation be justified. Thereon, he promised not to respect the PDPNYF cordinator in his (Philips) life time.

Similarly, Omepa issued a disclaimaer on February 16th at about 8:46pm via his facebook account, debunking what he described as a 'rumour' making the round that he was bribed to avert a protest that was, according to him, never planned.

"I write to the generality of the students of Kogi state university and Congress of kogi state to debunk the rumor that the SUG has collected the sum of 1.2million Naira from KOGI STATE government to stop the protest which was never planned by the institution for 21st February 2017.

It is worthy of note that such rumor lingered in the last ASUU strike which was proven not to be true with the protest that held in ganaja junction on July 14th, 2016.

It is also worthy of note that the SUG president has been quiet as to issue regarding the current ASUU strike and this is because the body knew various procedures and method it adopted to achieve success in the past ASUU strike.

Part of the primary aim and mandate of the union is to protect the lives and security of its students. And this is why it cannot risk allowing its students participate in a protest it cannot guarantee their security.
This doesn't mean if protest becomes our last resort, it wouldn't be adopted.

For the avoidance of doubt I will emphatically stress out that if any government officials has given the SUG of KSU money to stop the rumored protest, he or she should come out with evidence for clarity and posterity sake.
Finally students are pleaded to keep their peace as decisions taken will purely put a lasting end to the issue of ASUU strike in KOGI STATE UNIVERSITY." He said.

KSU Okada saga. Reasons Why They Stopped Operation On Campus Today

According to SUG PRO, Ogiri Cosmos "The student union government didn't ban the okadas.
The Okada Management foresee a competition with the students union suggested new transport system and withdraw their services for fear of competition."

Today 1st september 2016, ksu Okada Riders stopped their operation on campus, they only worked outside school, this got many students worrying as they have to trek to their various destination. some of the students think the Okada Riders have went on strike, and others think the SUG has banned Okada Riders because of the new transport system that was promised by the sug excos.

Ogiri Cosmos the SUG PRO further went on to post on facebook stating that

SUG KSU/PAAU chapter Thanked The Students For Their Support and Encouragement Most Especially For Not Taking To The Streets

Good morning my fellow comrades and students of Kogi State University. Thank you for your patience and understanding with the Students Union Government. SUG has tried and still trying in diplomacy and fair sided moves to ensure that the Students are back to school with neither rancor nor hostile relationship from the either of the embattled parties.

The students Union Government in its wisdom has swallowed all insults, taken all advice but has maintained a pure balanced philosophy of not using the strength and spirit of today’s ALUTA to jeopardize the reputation and relationship of the students and the warring parties.

It may interest you that we the members of the students union government and the warring parties have recognized that our strength is the huge number and support of the students (Congress). Need I remind us that every student union government enjoys the support, solidarity and sympathy of other counterparts students unions in other schools and colleges? That’s the strength every student union government carries. That’s the strength our Letters carries.

We thank the students for their criticisms, support and encouragement most especially for not taking to the streets. This victory is ours, we didn’t behave like hoodlums, we didn’t show or give room to anyone to question our prowess because the warring parties recognized and know our strength.

Believe me that this strength i talk of, as earlier said is the huge support and numbers we command and as such any consultation, consolidated and threat of confrontation from the students union government was never treated with levity.

As such we want to report back to the students that we’ve never slept. The President, Phillip Shaibu, the Secretary, Buhari Muhammad, the Speaker of the house Attaja Hussein and all members of the union have always travelled, appealed and pleaded with the parties. In fact I will not be wrong to put under quote and unquote that the students union government Kogi State Chapter has been a mediator and vehicle of communication between the warring party.

Today, 23rd of June 2016 we ASUU will be having a Congress after the numerous consultation from every stalk holders in the state and of course the university management and I want to believe that ASUU has been patronized and passionate about the continuous impartation of academic and character well being to the students then MONEY but for the “arrogance and misuse of unguided dedicates and words from the state”.

It will be of interest that I notify you that all is well and that by the grace of God all issues will be resolved amicably today.

Be careful.
Be calm.
Be productive.
Keep supporting SUG.
Keep supporting Phillip because you are his strength and weapons as RESUMPTION DATE WILL BE ANNOUNCED SOON.

thank you.

Stop Fighting Me Because Of Personal Issues, Lets Face The Matter On Ground - Ksu SUG President Tells Students Who Says He is Not Active

Some kogi State University Students have no chill at all, as they have been putting all blame on the sug president Philip Omepa who has been trying his best to see that the strike is being called off. He has been giving the students feedback on all his movement so far concerning the strike, but it seems like some students are not happy, as they are expecting him to call for an imediate Protest. He posted how he felt on facebook about people point fingers on him rather than joining him to sort out the issue on ground.

Read His Post On Facebook

"Ignorance is really a death trap. If u dont have knowledge of something its is better u seek clarification than committing fallacies. My statement concerning the asuu congress yesterday was well explained that: " since asuu has not taken any decision yet, we should be patient awaiting when dey decide". For now they have not generally agreed whether to call of d strike or not. So who do we protest against? Have they told any1 they re rejecting d 4month been paid? A congress issue is not a one man decision. I understand every students pain but like I said earlier, lets not be used by students who ll hardly understand steps taken so far before making statements to take us back to step 1. I feel the pain more. But @ dis point any decision I take will actually affect 2 thousand students either negatively or positively. For those who think they re martin Luther king jnr, we've not heard of ur accomplishments towards fighting irregularities in ur immediate department nor faculties like: selling of eds handouts, improper failing of students, sexuaul harassment etc. So my advice 4 u all is to stop fighting the person(OMEPA) because of personal issues unknown to him, and face d matter(ASUU STRIKE). I live us with this: he who knows not, and know not that he knows not, is a foolish person. But he who knows not, and knows he knows not, is a wise person. U cannot be more agrieved than the bereaved. I love my name. Thanks. P.S. OMEPA"

Asuu Strike Update: We Dont Know Who To Protest Against - SUG President Philip

Asuu's congress date is yet to be announced and every student is expected to wait patiently pending the congress day. At about 8am this morning I had a meeting with d asuu chairman d person of dr. Aina, and in his words as I quote: "government has made commitment by paying 4month salary out of 5month been owed. What we want from d government is to make commitment as to when they ll pay d remaining one month and also assure us that before 7th of every month we should be paid our salary. I am not d one to decide and if the congress decides to call off d strike with d 4month salary then I have no choice". He made mention of procedure that is supposed to be followed before calling a congress. That d executive is supposed to meet before calling a congress and that d date is undisclosed for now. For every students who tink it is right to stage a protest, please help me justify who SUG is to fight. Either d state government who promise to pay and did or asuu who is fighting for 5months salary and has been paid 4months. Either we take our minds off it, government have shown commitment and its in asuu position to consider d plight of students to call of the stike of which SUG has sent a message of appeal to asuu congress this morning through d asuu chairman. Pls SUG cant take mob actions about the strike issue bcos asuu has not made any decision whether they ll abide by that 4 months so we dont know who to fight. When asuu makes their decisions, we ll know who to face but for now lets wait patiently awaiting asuus decision. Thanks from. Comrade.

Asuu Strike: Kogi State University SUG President Philip Omeipha Speaks On Cancelling The Planned Protest Till Further Notice

SUG Prsident Philip Shaibu Omepa posted this on his facebook timeline yesterday :

"Good morning my fellow students. The wave of hope blew towards us immediately after the tribunal case when the governor himself during the press interview told the
general public and the students that in less than 10 days the
issue will be resolved and we will get back to our various classes. I couldn't believe this since they have made several promises in d past so I had to make contacts to his various
appointees and aides and we were assured that d governor has decided to make d university his priority and they are making arrangements to pay and that the notification for the protest actually got to d desk of his excellency the
governor. Now in view of this, u will all believe me all we want is how this strike issue will be resolved within a short time so we can get back to class.

So it has been deliberated
and agreed by the students union government that the protest which is slated to be 9th in anyigba will no longer hold but if government fails to keep up their 10 days demand, we all will be matching to lugard house on 16th of dis month I.e next week Thursday which I believe by then the 10 days promised might have elapsed.

I want to urge every student that we re working in one spirit for the betterment of our own institution and SUG is there in dis administration to be close to students, stand and fight for

Now in view of this, u will all believe me all we want is how this strike issue will be resolved within a short time so we can get back to class. So it has been deliberated and agreed by the students union government that the protest which is slated to be 9th in anyigba will no longer hold but if government fails to keep up their 10 days demand, we all will be matching to lugard house on 16th of dis month I.e next week Thursday which I believe by then the 10 days promised might have elapsed. I want to urge every student that we re working in one spirit for the betterment of our own institution and SUG is there in dis administration to be close to students, stand and fight for their right. We also want to thank every student for their patience and understanding with us. We are fighting for same cause. Thank you all. (A message from) COMRADE PHILIP SHAIBU OMEPA (08050476454)
