After 3 weeks of mouth watering, Bluetooth and sugar caneous football the department of Maths science became victorious after edging out the department of
Agriculture 5-4 on penalty shoot out. The runner up Who were tipped to be one of the minnows in the tournament surprisingly got to the finals. At the expense of Geology and Sociology It was a tournament full of surprises as the 2012 & 2013
champions Economics and sociology were bundled out of
the tournament in the quarter finals and semi finals respectively.
One of the contenders Political science were humbled out in the 2nd round as star player julius
Benjamin (benito) was rested due to a groin injury but later featured in the 2nd half but he's presence wasn't felt as his team lost by 2-0 to the eventual winners
maths science.
The Grand Finale match which kicked off at exactly 4.30pm on friday evening at the school Stadium saw both teams played out a goalless draw, where Team
Maths science dominated most of the possesions with the likes of Adewunmi Bamidele and Thompson Olatunji really disturbed the defence of the opposite side from left to right but all to no avail, shadrack the highest goal
scorer of the tournament failed to find the back of the net in an all tensed final match. On the other hand Team Agriculture squandered some clear cut chances, if utilized would have seen them
victorious. Star player kehinde kayode was on the bench
throughout the final 90 minutes including the extra time,
but was very instrumental for his Team Agricultre to the final, FemstecNews interviewed him after the match, which he said the coach knows best why he kept him on
the bench, speaking with the coach which said he was injured, but yours truely gathered that he was left out due to some political reasons.
After 90 minutes the match went straight into extra time, still the match ended with no goal as it went
straight to penalty shoot out Team Agriculture began the shoot out converting from the spot,followed by Team Maths Science also converted, both teams converted
there 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th kick respectively until a Team Agriculture player balloned his kick up giving the team Maths science the trophy after scoring their 5th
penalty kick.
The SUG president J.S. Idachaba was present at the event as he handed over the trophy to the captain of Team Maths Science in person of Thompson Olatunji a
400 level maths science student who happen to be the MVP of the tournament who also has played in the Finals of NASS Cup and Faculty Cup respectively emerging victorious. Making him the most decorated player and captain.
Shadrack also from Maths Science was named the highest goal scorer with 5 goals and 1 assist.

See The List Of Nine Fake Universities Recently Shut Down By NUC
According to AIT TV station, The National Universities
Commission, NUC, has shut down nine universities in
Nigeria for operating without legal licenses.
The publication of the affected institutions was published
in the NUC weekly bulletin. Report says the Prof. Julius Okojie, the NUC’s executive secretary, signed the publication. He stated that the universities have been in
existence for years and have just being extorting money
from students who were given fake certificates.
The listed universities are those affected;
National University of Nigeria, Keffi (Nasarawa State);
North Central University, Otukpo (Benue State);
Christ Alive Christian Seminary and University, (Enugu
state);
Richmond Open University, Arochukwu (Abia State) and
Saint Clements University, Iyin Ekiti (Ekiti State)
West Coast University, Umuahia, Volta University College,
Aba, (Abia State) and the satellite campuses of Ambrose
Ali University.
The publication also reveal that:
“In addition to the
closure, the following `Degree Mills’ are currently
undergoing court actions; the purpose of these actions is
to prosecute the proprietors and recover illegal fees and
charges on subscribers.
“For the avoidance of doubt, anybody who patronizes
or obtains any certificate from any of these illegal
institutions does so at his or her own risk.
“Certificates obtained from these sources will not be
recognized for the purposes of NYSC, employment
and further studies.”
NUC also persuaded Nigerians to disconnect themselves
from the institutions and their certificates.
While some are being closed, new private universities have
been recommended to the president for approval.
NUC also stated that they are considering introduction of a
pre-Doctoral Programme in the postgraduate studies in
Nigerian universities. This was said while Prof Okojie was
at an interactive session with Education Correspondents
Association of Nigeria (ECAN).
He explained that the universities listed on the proposal
sent to the president through the Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau,
Minister of Education have all being approved by NUC but
would also receive the input and approval of the Federal
Executive Council (FEC).
He said access to university education has been a
challenge in the country with over one million Nigerians,
who were, on annual basis, unable to gain admission into
the limited tertiary institutions because of low carrying
capacity.
The executive secretary of NUC has said, that NUC is
considering the introduction of pre- Ph.D. programme in
Nigerian universities based on the recommendation of
some of the vice chancellors.
