Beyonce’s 36th Birthday, Super Eagles’ supremacy over Cameroon, Serena Williams top Google #trending search terms

Nigeria’s 4-0 first leg win over Cameroon in the ongoing 2018 World Cup Qualifiers, dominated searches this week on Google.

Google’s spokesman Taiwo Kola-Ogunlademade the announcement on Friday in Lagos.

According to him, this week’s top trending search terms on Google range from sports to celebrity news.

He said that sports-loving Nigerians got excited over the Super Eagles’ performance against their counterparts in the qualifiers. The Eagles are now leading their group with 10 points from matches played so far.

“Their 4-0 win over Cameroon on Friday and 1-1 draw by the Lions of Cameroon on Monday has gotten fans, sports experts, coaches and speculators predicting that the Super Eagles might qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Excited fans raced to Google search to get more details about upcoming matches for the qualifiers.”

Kola-Ogunlade said that the American professional tennis player, Serena Williams, who was reported to have given birth to a baby girl on September 1 also attracted searches on Google.

He said that the announcement of Serena’s first child with fiancé, Alexis Ohanian, was made by reporter Chris Shepherd via Twitter.

“Though the couple have not officially announced the birth, the tennis star’s fans and celebrity friends have since taken to Google to share their congratulatory messages.”

The Google manager said that concerned Nigerians also searched Google to read more about the distressing news of the North Korea missile test.

“North Korean President Kim Jong-un was pictured during yet another round of nuclear missiles testing over the weekend. The images have sparked tension in South Korea, the U.S. and Europe.

Han Tae Song, the Ambassador of North Korea to the UN, the North Korean Supreme Leader vowed to send more “gift packages” to the U.S.,” said Kola-Ogunlade

The Google image maker said that American singer, songwriter and actress Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, turned 36 on September 4.

The pop star celebrated her birthday in spectacular fashion by starting an awareness campaign to support hurricane relief efforts in her hometown, Houston.

Beyoncé, wearing one of the iconic outfits from her “Formation” video, shared images of her friends and family on her website. Beneath the images was a message and link asking fans to support the Hurricane Harvey disasterrelief efforts.

While Nigerian Beyhive’s congratulated and commended the singer for the effort, others criticised her, which made Nigerians interested in the debate go to Google to get the full gist.

Why Zenith/Access Bank Accounts Were Opened for Kogi Civil Servants

Following queries and concerns raised that new salary accounts have been opened for Kogi State civil servants in Access and Zenith Banks and account details communicated to them, rather than use their existing salary accounts in various banks, Governor Yahaya Bello has offered some insights into that development and the rationale behind it.

At a forum on Thursday where the issue came up, the governor explained that the latter day bailout funds received by state governments are actually the end product of the federal government standing surety for state governments, enabling them to approach deposit money banks for facilities.

In other words, as against the generally held impression that the federal government has always doled out these funds from its coffers, what happened in the case of Kogi State is that the federal government essentially provided a guarantee for the loan facility to would-be lenders, in favour of the state government.

Due to the prevailing economic situation, cash reserves of commercial banks domiciled with the Central Bank of Nigeria are currently competing for so many pressing needs simultaneously, making it increasingly difficult for the commercial banks to finance loan facilities, especially long-term ones.

Access and Zenith Banks were however able to step up to the plate when Kogi State approached them. They made the first tranche of the state’s bailout funds available, but on one small condition. That the funds remain domiciled in their banks. If you ask me, and without giving it too much thought, it does make perfect business sense.

These banks offer essentially homogeneous services, especially in this case where we are talking salary accounts. It would have been odd were Access and Zenith to be so liberal as to allow other banks benefit from an exclusive market they have basically created. So, rather than make these funds available to the state government to pay workers through other banks, why not internalise the entire process and start reaping accruable benefits from the get go?

This explanation is very necessary as I have come across many wild allegations and insinuations that accounts being opened are for unethical purposes. Given the foregoing, any insinuations and speculations about shady, underhand dealings with regards to the disbursement of these bailout funds are completely unfounded.

I admit that this situation where erroneous notions are already making the rounds should have been preempted. However, I believe it is not too late to correct the wrong impression some of us have held on this issue. Another persistent misconception that also needs correcting concerns the actual nature of the bailout funds itself, as not a few of us still wrongly assume it is a largesse.

Permit me to quickly reiterate that these bailout funds are loan facilities. They are debts structured to be paid back over an extended period, and which will certainly be inherited by the generation coming after us. Please, they are not grants. This explains why state governments have had to first apply for the funds. Individual state governments assess their needs, then make a request to the federal government which is scrutinised.

This process is a work in progress, even as government remains committed to ensuring that all legitimate workers get what is due them. Any complaints and observations should be transmitted through appropriate official channels, and such will be duly looked into so no one is unfairly left behind.

Baba Dee Blasts ‘Uncultured’ Davido For Disrespecting Dele Momodu

Popular dancehall singer, Baba Dee, whose real name is Dare Fasasin, has expressed his displeasure at hip hop singer, Davido, for disrespecting Ovation publisher, Dele Momodu.

Baba Dee posted his blistering opinion of the fight between the two on his facebook saying, “I feel the need to share this since we have become a country that glorifies criminality and celebrate ill acquired wealth. If not curbed, it will come back to us full circle. I respect Oga Dele Momodu and I will not dare insult him or someone in his generation as a well brought up ‘Yoruba boy.’

But I must say it is a shame that a kid like Davido does not have any qualms making a statement like ‘Dele na my boy.’ It sounds like something he heard from his dad visibly mocking Bob Dee after the child trafficking drama with Uncle Dele paring the insult from this juvenile.”

Davido has been in a fight with Dele Momodu since the end of last year when Davido’s baby mama, Sophia Momodu, who is a cousin to Dele Momodu, refused to allow Davido take their daughter, Imade to Dubai and Dele Momodu reacted in her favour.

Davido has used all forms to insult and call out the fashion mogul, but recently Dele Momodu opened up in a recent interview claiming Davido is his son.

Ghen Ghen!! Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon Finally Speaks About Dasukigate

The Chief of Staff to Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon (aka Igodomigodo) has finally revealed his thoughts about the trial of former National Security Adviser, Dasuki.

Here’s what he shared on his Facebook page.

“Whereas the Dasuki menopause has diaphanously made the point that the Jonathan administration elevated the dum vivimus, vivamus nectar to a nauseating and asphyxiating elastoplast, it can bear reiteration that beyond the current ballyhoo baying for a condign comeuppance, the challenge is how to ensure that each public officer is henceforth subjected to the immolatory trajectory of dulce et decorum est pro patria mori. But can we break away from the penelopic circle of flagellative rigor mortis?”

If you understand what he said and can explain, please help us.
