Kogi Bailout: Yahaya Bello Lied – Wada

The immediate past governor of Kogi State, Capt Idris Wada, on Monday faulted the claims of his successor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, on the status of the N20 billion bailout fund approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) saying the governor lied on the issue.

Wada stated that there was no truth in the assertion that the new administration had to apply afresh for intervention fund from the Federal Government.

The former governor, in a statement issued in Abuja by his Chief Communications Manager, Mr Phrank Shaibu, stated that it was part of the bailout fund approved for the state during his tenure that the CBN released, adding that Governor Bello could not have fulfilled the conditions precedent for a state to benefit from such a fund.

“It is curious that Governor Bello announced that the CBN has approved N20 billion as part of N50 billion bailout fund applied for. It was the same N50 billion we requested for, out of which N20 billion was to have been released before the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government created bottlenecks to frustrate us from getting the bailout. But the coincidence in the figures leaves a very sour taste in the mouth,” he noted.

The former governor wondered how the new administration could have applied for a bailout when there is no state executive council in place to approve, neither has the State Assembly met to deliberate on the application, nor the staff audit embarked on by Bello to determine exact overhead cost completed.

“Since the advent of the new administration, commissioners have not been appointed. So, can the state executive council have met to approve the application? The State House of Assembly has been in turmoil since January this year. Could some ghost lawmakers have been employed to approve the application? And has the current staffaudit ended as to have determined the monthly workers pay? How was the so called fresh application done without meeting these conditions,” he asked.

Wada stated that notwithstanding the antics of the APC, Kogi workers and the entire nation was aware that his government was denied the bailout fund as an election strategy to deny him a second term, adding that Bello knows that his days in the government house are numbered.

He said, “They plotted against me. The bailout fund was part of the strategy to deny me a second term in office. But their effort to play God failed. Time and fate played a fast one on them. And the man who claims to be the landlord knows that his days in government house are numbered. I know he cannot sleep with his two eyes closed”.

Wada, who was the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in last year’s gubernatorial election, however expressed enthusiasm that he would soon return to Lugard House, Lokoja as he was sure the courts would rule in his favour soon.

“Governor Bello should not rejoice for long. Justice would soon be served. Truth would soon ascend the throne. And I am sure that God has destined that I shall return to the government house. I have no doubt that the courts shall rule in my favour,” he declared.

Wada advised Bello not to misinform the workers and the general public as he tried to do during the Workers Day in Lokoja on happenings in his administration, pointing out that it is cheaper to stick by the truth at all times, while noting that a clear conscience fears no accusations.

Kogi Workers to Resume Strike Over Non-payment of Salaries

Organised labour in Kogi said on Monday in Lokoja that it would resume strike to impress it on the state government on the need to pay outstanding five-month salary arrears to workers.

This is contained in a communiqué issued by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC) at the end of an emergency meeting.

The communiqué was jointly signed by Mr Onuh Edoka, the state NLC Chairman; Mr Ojo Ranti Matthew, Chairman of TUC and Mr Aaron Akeji, the Chairman of JNC.

The communiqué stated that previous promises by the state government to pay the salary arrears had not been kept.

It also condemned the payment of salary in piecemeal; adding that salaries for the months of October and November, 2015 were paid three months after each of the month was due.

The communiqué also decried the exclusion of workers employed between January and December, 2015 from receiving the November, 2015 salaries.

It urged the state government to pay those affected because they worked for the month.

According to the communiqué, “the state government is claiming that the employment of the concerned workers was irregular, since there was an embargo on employment in the state.’’

In a reaction, Mr Kingsley Fanwo, the Chief Press Secretary to Gov.Yahaya Bello, said it would be inappropriate for the workers to blame the government for the failure of the past administrations.

Fanwo said Bello’s administration was able to offset two months’ salary arrears within his 57 days in office.

“Labour was on an indefinite strike before the inauguration of the present administration, but the governor intervened to settle the industrial dispute”, he said.

He said the governor would undertake a holistic appraisal of the situation after the ongoing screening exercise with a view to addressing the salary issue once and for all.

KogiDecides: Why Ebira Should Support Prince Abubakar Audu – Tom Ohikere

As the November 21st Kogi Governorship election gather momentum, the head, Media and Publicity, Audu/Faleke Campaign Organization, Dr. Tom Ohikere, has implored the people of Kogi Central Senatorial District to vote en masse for the APC governorship candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu.

According to Ohikere, Prince Audu has remained, today, the best governor, in terms of infrastructural development and has demonstrated uncommon leadership traits.

Ohikere, who commended the people of Ebiraland for the warm reception accorded the APC-team led by the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, also applauded them for their show of support for the party and their maturity during the rally.

He promised that Prince Audu, when elected, would help in entrenching the programmes of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government, adding that since the people of the state are ready to embrace the change mantra, the Ebira people cannot afford to do otherwise.

The Campaign head for the APC in Kogi State said despite the falsehood that are being peddled by the soon-to-be opposition party in Kogi State, the PDP, the people are wiser and are ready to judge both of the candidate on the basis of their capacity.

He opined: Come to think of it, the Prince Audu that the people of Kogi State know is a man that is interested in the development of all sectors of the state economy, because he knows that it is through that the social problems confronting the people can be addressed.

The incumbent governor and his handlers are busy raising issues where there is none, rather than telling Kogians how they can bring development to them because everything is totally down at the moment.

On Ebira agenda, he said: As a bonafide Ebira man myself I am representing the interests and desires of my people. I am committed to the Ebira agenda because nationality question is a major factor in any federal system.

He continued: We must not reduce the Ebira agenda to a mere power rotation. It includes but not limited to that. Youth employment, infrastructural development, completion of Ajaokuta project, total activation of the Itakpe Iron ore company and commercialization of our cultural festival among other important issues combine to form the much valued Ebira agenda.

These are issues that cannot be totally achieved within the confines of the power and resources of the state. That is why we need a federated and nationalistic party like the APC to achieve the totality of the Ebira agenda

Kogi workers to go on strike over salary

Civil Servants in Kogi state may soon embark on an indefinite strike should government carry out its planned 40 percent salary cut.

Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Suleiman Abdullahi announced to Journalists on Tuesday in Lokoja after the meeting of the State Working Committee. He said the decision to pay junior workers on levels 1- 6 full salary while officers on levels 7 and above 60 percent was unacceptable.

Comrade Abdullahi disclosed that the workers through their union were not involved in the obnoxious decision to shortchange them of their paltry take home monthly payment, pointing out that the so called shortfall in the monthly allocation from Federation account should not be a burden on the workers.

He said the Nigeria Labour
Congress has therefore given government 24hours ultimatum to change its plan or face the wrath of workers in the state, threatening that all government activities will be paralyzed.

“There are several avenues that government can source for fund to augment the dubious shortfall, especially reducing astronomical number of political appointees as well as their jumbo salaries and allowances.

NLC therefore warned that should the government go ahead to post the 60 percent of the normal salaries into accounts of the category of workers, it should be considered as bonus and not salaries.

The Union however appealed to the workers to remain calm and wait patiently for the expiration of the 24 hours ultimatum given to the state government.

Miss WuraOla GOLD: My NGO (WURAOLAGOLD FOUNDATION) is all about putting smiles into the faces of the less privilege basically the orphans and widows in our society

Miss WuraOla GOLD: A philanthropist. And reason is I love mankind (humanity first)

Miss WuraOla GOLD: Inner beauty. Inner beauty is more important because it portrays who you are, your character and that is what I call beauty.

What do you have to say about indecent dressing by our young girls of today in the name of fashion
Miss WuraOla GOLD: Well, our world of fashion today has takrn a new shape, girls now go on streets half naked even on campus. Most of them were not brought up that way or trained to dress that way from home, but due to peer groups, wrong association, their dress sense changed. And I must say indecent dressing is an effect of western civilization. My words of advice to them is lets try our best as ladies to cover the sensitive part of our body properly before stepping out of our rooms, because the way we dress determines the way we are addressed.

In your view, what is the biggest problem facing our educational system today?
Miss WuraOla GOLD:

What are your views about the political crisis and boko haram issues in Nigeria?
Miss WuraOla GOLD: Citizens should be senticized by NOA (National Orientation Agency) on electoral guidelines and the danger of electoral malpractices. Secondly, on boko haram issues in Nigeria, I believe terrorism (boko haram) is a global phenomenon i.e every country at a time must experience terrorism. Its how the country can it that matters. Therefore before the advent of boko haram in Nigeria, the act of terrorism has been in existence. A good example of this is the militancy in niger delta

Name one living person that inspires you
Miss WuraOla GOLD: Oprah Winfrey. She grew up in poverty, was raped at age 9 and 13, ran away from home and gave birth at 14 to a son who died soon after, but still went on to become the World's 1st Arican American Billionare

Miss WuraOla GOLD: When I launched my foundation in oct 1st2013. Its not as if I have never been proud of my self, but this particular achievement come as a result of dream come true.
