JAMB Set To Conduct Supplementary Exams For Candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), is planning to conduct supplementary examination for candidates who had hitches in their registration and examination processes.
This was confirmed by JAMB Registrar, Is-haq Oloyede, on Wednesday while addressing newsmen.
“Anybody whose biometric could not be verified will be allowed to do the supplementary examination.
“As at today, 640 candidates out of 1.7million candidates did not do biometric verification, reasons being that some fraudsters registered candidates across online.
“In this case, the students are not guilty of the offence and hence will be made to write the exam again under my own very eyes,” he said.

Why We Stopped JAMB Exams Candidates From Our Campus - LAUTECH Students Speak Up

Students of LAUTECH have explained why they vehemently refused to allow candidates of the 2017 UTME examination, from entering the institution.
LAUTECH gate

According to Premium Times, the students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho, have explained why they shut the gates of the institution against candidates of the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME last week.

The candidates who were to sit for the examinations on Monday last week at a Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre inside LAUTECH were prevented from gaining entrance into the campus by protesting students of the institution.

The students who had mobilised for the protest, stationed themselves as early as 6.00 a.m. in teams at all the entrances into the institution.

Their barricades prevented movement into and inside the campus, denying even staff of the institution entry.

Some of the students who spoke to Premium Times on Tuesday said their move was targeted at drawing the attention of the Federal and State governments to their plight.

The institution, jointly owned by Oyo and Osun states, was closed between June 2016 and February this year.

The failure of the two states in fulfilling their shared funding responsibility provoked the workers to shut down the institution, just before the students were scheduled to begin their second semester examinations.

The two state governments in February paid N500 million for settlement of workers’ salaries, prompting the school to resume.

Upon resumption, the students completed their 2015/2016 academic year first semester exams in April but academic activities have since again been put on hold.

“Last week we thought it right to call the attention of the federal and state government. We thought that preventing JAMB candidates from writing exams is the only avenue we can use to make our agitation well known,” Oyedeji Ahmad, a final year student of Agronomy said.

“We are yet to start receiving lectures, we want the governors to address our plight.

“We have been in the same level since 2015. The final year students are not sure of graduating this year. Due to this frustration, a lot of students have engaged in social vices, cyber crimes etc.

“The younger students are now taking and gaining admissions into higher institutions but we in the final year are just trapped,” Mr. Ahmad said.

Freedom Siasia, a 300-level student, said he was to participate in the UTME but was prevented even though he was a student of the institution.

“I obtained a JAMB form since the strike has kept me on the same level for long. On that Monday, I even begged to be allowed to enter since I am a student of the school with a registration number, but I was not allowed. The argument was that JAMB candidates should go back to their parents and tell them what happened then something might be done,” Siasia said.

He however added that he later wrote his exams in Shaki, a neighboring town.

David Tunwagun, a final year student of biochemistry said he entered the school in 2011 and was to graduate in 2016 but has not due to the crisis in the school.

“We are not getting younger,” Mr. David stressed.

The alumni association of the school over the weekend apologized to JAMB and UTME candidates while condemning the students for their actions.

“The Alumni Association understands that the students’ action was borne out of frustration on the effect of the strike action on their future. We therefore apologize to the candidates, JAMB Management and the entire public for the untold hardship and embarrassment the action might have caused them.

“In a similar vein, the Alumni Association in strong unequivocal terms, condemns the despicable action of a section of the students that went on the rampage and distastefully displayed the obituary of a living Vice-Chancellor. We find this act as barbaric and a display of poor character,” the association said in a statement signed by its spokesman, Samson Owoyokun.

Meanwhile, JAMB said it has conducted the UTME process for the affected candidates in Oyo.

“They later took the exams in different centres in Oyo and it was hitch free”, JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, told Premium Times on phone.

LAUTECH spokesperson, Lekan Fadeyi, told Premium Times that the lecturers have resumed but he could not comment on why the students hindered the UTME process.

“The students are in the best position to say why they acted the way they did,” he said.

But Mr. Owoyokun, the spokesman of the alumni association, said academic activities in the school remain paralyzed because the governments were till owing lecturers and other workers seven months salary.

“When the school resumed in February, the lecturers received N581million, payment for two and a half months – July 2016, January and half of February was covered.

“However, they are still being owed five months from last year and two months for this year making it seven months.

“They have not gone on strike officially but if you go to the school, academic activities have being paralyzed, doors are shut,” Mr. Owoyokun said.

Meanwhile, the students were set for another round of protests from Wednesday morning when they vowed to march to Osogbo.

“We are going on another peaceful protest in Osogbo to demand for reopening of the university,” Mr. Ahmad said.

My Five Years in KSU - Yinka Oladipupo Weep For The Fututre Of Kogi [Read Article]

Image may contain: 1 person
Facts unexplainable.

The question is are we really getting the picture of the future this government is painting for us? Isn't it "pleasant"? lol.

This government does not have a tangible package to deliver. If higher institutions of learning in the state could be closed for this long then we're truly in a changed and new direction era.

I have refused to complain too much about the strike or call on the ASUU body to consider the students maybe because where two elephants fights it's the grasses under that'll suffer...what if my parents were victims.

You cannot hold the GYB for it all because he arrived on a platter of gold and never made any promises to anyone, being in the office for him is a child of circumstance and we are waiting for 2019. I am not surprised if I'll be forced to spend 10yrs to bag a degree certificate that is not capable of engaging me for a life time because I know how the Nigerian style of leadership works.

A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny! Which of course is the case in Kogi State and Nigeria at large. Our schools are closed and we dare not talk.
Anyigba Closed
Lokoja Closed
Ankpa Closed
EDUCATION DOWN

Are we really tired of this annual epidemic anniversary that is killing our future? How do we describe the spirit of cowardness, weakness and fearness.

If the SUG is not playing its role as expected, how do we get across to the other side of the shore. We have to understand that the government is watering down the archaic and destitute education they are serving us but, we're just looking at ourselves like monkey and baboons.

Better to die fighting for freedom than be a prisoner all the days of your life. If we're not ready to die for it, take the word 'resumption' out of our vocabulary.

The government of Nigeria is actively watering down the inferior quality of education available to us, they want to cow us, they want to keep us in perpetual darkness, they want to make us a generation that cannot speak in the face of oppression, they want to make us uneducated despite our BSc, B.A and MScs.

Fellow Nigerian students, an injury to one is an injury to all. The rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one man are threatened. Let us all raise our voices until Kogi State higher institutions of learning are reopened. What's sause for the goose is for the gander. Least said soonest mended. We also deserve a substantial quality of education just like their children and not this substandard and antiquated something.

Little wonder why Nigeria is not developing because the mind has been shifted away from creating geniuses to creation of pedestal eventuality those we've been doing since 1960.

I'll shift my aggression away from the external bodies such as ASUU and GOVERNMENT to the so called students. We are the victims of the result here and we are not ready to die for what is our rights. Until we understand that the government is the most dangerous threat to man's rights: it holds a legal monopoly on the use of physical force against legally disarmed victims we will remain in this cocoon of indifference.

The ALUTA spirit has been sold for a stipend to fear. This government is always against any form of opposition by anybody which is hideous and shows the level of impunity in the state. LAUTECH students realized it was becoming an unbecoming only when they've spent about ten months at home and our case is mostly related here. Sen Dino Melaye addressed the striking conundrum in the plenary session but what has happened. Do we really believe that he's fighting for us? This little boy can never be fooled because "When they call the roll in the Senate, the Senators do not know whether to answer 'Present' or 'Not Guilty'."

I stand to be the Martin Luther King, Kwame Nkruma, Julius Nyerere, Nelson Mandela, Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Kalu, Austin Okai of the great Kogi State University. I'm not interested in preserving the status quo; I want to overthrow it. I can never be cowed. The moment schools as shut in the state, the progress and development of the state are down not just for the moment but, also time unknown.
Have you seen the picture of the Social Sciences Faculty that is in vogue on social media? I sometimes sit and ponder over my worst decision of choosing Kogi State University for study centre but, I believe that is a reason hidden from me by God.

This is what Wangari Mathai of Kenya said about leaders "Those of us who have been privileged to receive education, skills, and experiences and even power must be role models for the next generation of leadership" but the case here in Nigeria is contrary.

Leave the self centred government officials alone if you make peaceful revolution impossible you make violent revolution inevitable for a time is coming when Nigerians will have nothing left to eat but them. A time is coming when those of us they've refused to serve will be threats to their own children. A time is coming when there'll be armed rubbers among us that'll not allow them and their children to enjoy their loots. Most of all a time is coming when a son of nobody like me will hit the ground of the government house and mount the alter of leadership.

KOGI STATE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS PLANNING TO LOCK DOWN THE CAMPUS TO STOP AGAINST UTME CANDIDATE

The SUG president, Comr. Philip Omepa stated on his Facebook Wall that except the demands of the students are met, the students should come out  and join him shut down the gates of the campus against the candidates currently writing jamb.

Read his update below:

WHO IS FOOLING WHO?

I remember vividly how my hopes arose again two weeks back when I visited a governing council member who is heading the committee on union affairs in the council MR. J.O AMODU. While in his office he called the school bursar who affirmed that he was in lokoja to  clear both February and march salary. We were both happy as I was told immediately they pay they lecturers, they will fix resumption date. A week later, the governor called all the council members, expressed his bitterness as to why virtually all the state owned institutions were closed down and students protesting against his government. He went further to ask council members what it will take to for school to reopen before 15th may 2017. In response to his question the council chairman outrightly outline three factors to which resumption is based on:

1. That salaries of February and march be paid in full… (Only February paid).

2. That EAA of january, February and march be paid (still pending)

3. That government should not take action on faulters of the screening exercise till the council reviews the result.

All these factors were approved by Mr. Governor (mind you this is not the first time he is always approving)

There and there he told the accountant general and the auditor general that if they don’t adhere to his directive of paying the staffs before 15th may, they will be sacked.

Today is may 15th, Mr governor, the accountant general and auditor are yet to adhere to your instructions and you have not sacked them.

The question is:

Who is fooling who? (Government/council/asuu/students)

Is our governor not a man of his word again?

Is our governor genuine when he expressed that he was once a students and if he was treated as such he wouldn’t have risen to become a state governor?

Hope when we start another version of protest, we won’t be tagged enemies of the state.

Parties are given one week extension to settle their dispute or students too takes drastic measure to take their future into their hands.

Note(students):

During this one week students leaders will meet and to take decisions as to call on students to come over to school let’s remain in class till we are lectured and during this course, UTME exams will not be holding in our campuses.

Our humble submissions.

Aluta continua…

THE BITTER TRUTH ABOUT STUDENTS SHOUTING REOPEN KSU - By Daniel Olas

Message to “Some” of you shouting Reopen KSU

The Bitter Truth – KSU Students.
Lemme quickly address this issue as I have kept quiet on the issue of strike going on. I’m not here to clamour for Reopen Ksu, the protest in the past has changed nothing. (You can argue with your wall)

Ksu students be shouting reopen ksu up and down… Good, education is the key… Key to what? Key to hard-partying and everything smokeable, key to womanizing and slaying-ness.

Let me ask you a sincere question, what exactly are you going back to school to do? Once the school resumes, what’s your purpose?

Most of my fellow students misses school because they could only do all sorta things their family ain’t proud of. You know, I don’t have issh with you smoking buh if you can’t smoke it at home, why school?

You’ve been shouting REopen Ksu?
Before we went on strike, how many times did you attend class? Be sincere.

Ain’t bother a bit bout this strike. Three months has afforded a whole lot of time I wouldn’t have in school… What exactly have you accomplish during the strike? More Facebook friends shey?

God Help Us.

Kogi State Joint Action Committee of Tertiary institutions has been urged to call off the ongoing strike on liberal grounds.

The Special Adviser to Kogi State Governor on Youth Empowerment, Sport and Students Affairs Hon. MD Eseyin made the appeal in a chat with newsmen.

He said the committee should consider if nothing but almost all their demand painstakingly ascended to by the government and discontinue the industrial action

Eseyin added that the strike action will only worsen the harsh social and economic conditions of the students and attract them to social vices.

He noted that the government of Alhaji Yahaya Bello stand in good stead to  resuscitate the educational sector and build a solid foundation that will stand the test of time.

“Just as no father will be happy to see his child at home so also the governor, despite the economic downturn, he has done unimaginable, obviously from his show of commitment  in spite of unending strike continues to honour subvention to all higher institutions in the state”

“At the just concluded Stakeholders meeting, the governor in his usual character, magnanimously defrayed all academic earn allowance and tax waivers to the turn of 290million” he added

Recall that the Kogi State Joint Action committee embarked on industrial action some months ago to press home their demands for improved workers’ welfare.

KOGI VARSITY UNION TO CONTINUE STRIKE …Accuses Government Of Insincerity

The Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU) of the Kogi State University, Anyigba(KSU), has vowed to continue with its industrial action until the government meets its demand..
The union lamented that about 200 of its members were screened out of service during the workers' verification, accusing the government of insincerity.
The Acting Chairman,Dr. Daniel Anda, who addressed reporters in Lokoja yesterday, said the strike would only be suspended when issues related to salary arrears, the 2015 employment, and contract and sabbatical staff, were resolved. He asked that government resumed the monthly installment payment of 2009-2014 arrears of the Earned Academic Allowances(EAA).
His words: "The Kogi State University management must pay up the outstanding balance of the 2014/2015 arrears of the EAA". The union, he said, at the inaugural meeting of the governing council, urged it to expedite action on the resolution of uncleared staff and payment of salary arrears.
"This was to create a pathway for the amicable resolution of outstanding issues before the April 24 but our suggestion seemed to have been jettisoned because while workers in other tertiary institutions in Kogi, who were on strike, got their February and March salaries, those of KSU, Anyigba, are yet to be paid," he added.

Kogi State University ,Kogi State Polytechnic and other state owned Higher Institutions Students to resume school this week.

This is due to the unusual sacrificed made by the Kogi Governor for the sake of Students of Kogi State owned tertiary institutions who has been sitting at home for the past 3 months.
The Governor made this known at the Kogi State stakeholders meeting that took place this evening in Government House Lokoja, during the public presentation of the Report Of Kogi State Staff Screening and Verification Exercise.
The Governor Stated that for the sake of our students who has been sitting at home, he considered it necessary to temper justice with mercy just as the labour leaders pleaded, the Governor immediately granted all the demands of the ASSU and the most contentious one is the issue of waiver of #290millions to the ASSU which ordinarily should have been tax deduction from the lectures,
this is quite humane from the side of the Governor for the ASSU ,just for the sake of our students who has been sitting at home due to the unhealthy demands by the State Academic Staff Union.
As a matter of fact in trade dispute or in the collective bargaining table, compromise is always expected from both parties ,which has been widely posited that; he that come to equity, must come with a clean hand but today the digital Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alh Yahaya Adoza Bello for the sake of Kogi State students who has been sitting at home, as such he did the unimaginable thing by defying that assertion as he granted all the demands of ASSU, which could be best described as an attributes of a wisest leader with no boundaries in the servicing of his people.

Point to note : despite the fact that these academic staff union has been on strike,
; did you know that Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello has been paying them their monthly salary without invoking some of the term of Industrial Dispute of No Work, No Pay?
Just for the sake of our students who are sitting at home to return back to school quickly but
this same lecturers wasn't it humane enough to reopen our schools?
-Nda Aaron.

THE BENEFITS OF STRIKE TO STUDENTS BY ONOJA JOHNSON BABA

Dear Nigerian Students,

It is not a glorious thing to discuss strike. It also seems nonsensical to think that strike, which disrupts cademic activities, slow down graduation, NYSC mobilization and what have you, can in any way be beneficial to any student. Strike is evil and pestilent, to say the least. However, our ability to see opportunity amidst danger and challenges like strike is what  makes us creative, smart and wise as youngsters.

Of course, strike has become a house hold name in this part of the world. It is and endemic that its end in Nigeria does not seem near. It comes up every now and then in our higher public institutions. This is for the fact that the people at the helm of affairs hardly keep their children with us in an educational system they have rubbished with their hands and thus denigrated.

Not helping matter is the lingering economic recession in the country. No doubt, many state universities are bound to plunge into strike soon as more States are owing salary arrears.

Considering the  occurrence and recurrence of strike actions, it has become pertinent for us to begin to device means of making the best out of strike at any point or level it hits us as students.

You see, no body teaches you how you can plan your life in school so you must teach yourself, internalized and exercise it. It is deadly in this technological and skill driven society to think that your certificate is most important. The certificate will surly come and of course you know that many have gotten it and like you, many will still get. Base on this fact, skills have become the key as it give a holder lots of values and edge over others.

Strike is like a break, while it lasts, every wise student would think of something to do to add value to his/her life. Passing time with social media or television is not the best. The best is going out there to engage yourself productively.

I have discovered that many graduates get into skill acquisition and vocational training after graduating from school amidst the tensity of the life after school. Why can’t students consider all these before leaving the school. If you already have something before leaving the school, then you have saved the time of starting afresh after school. Your next step after school would be to set the ball of your business rolling as fast as possible.

Any break from school should be seen as an opportunity to get into different endeavors that would be of help in the future. Gone are the days when students would sit at homes leaving their future at the mercy of a governor or one man that does not feel your pains a bit. Don’t leave your life to chance. Take the responsibility of whatever you make out of your life.

Is your school on strike, thank God, it is time for you to go and acquire that skill. It is time for you to tryout that business or idea. Remember that if you can’t confront your fears, you can’t conquer it.

Whatever you learn over the strike period will remain with you, it could be what you may have to start with after school. It could even start fetching you little pay when you get back to your studies.  It is time to Sit-up and wise-up…

Best Regards.

KOGI GROUP DEMANDS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF TAOFIK ISA

BEING A WORLD PRESS CONFERENCE ADDRESSED BY THE PRESIDENT, KOGI INTEGRITY GROUP (KIG), BARRISTER ZACCHAEUS DARE MICHAEL, DEMANDING THE IMMEDIATE AND UNCONDITIONAL  RELEASE OF KOGI ALGON CHAIRMAN, HON. TAOFIK ISA, IJUMU LGA ADMINISTRATOR
Gentlemen of the press, we invited you here today to address the world on the illegal arrest and detention of the Kogi State ALGON Chairman/Ijumu LGA Administrator, Hon Taofik Isa, by the Nigerian Police.

The entire coalition of youths which encompasses all the youths and students’ bodies in Kogi west senatorial district in collaboration with Kogi Integrity Group, hereby demand the immediate release of Hon Taofik Isa.

We want to state here categorically that the assassination attempt on Dino Melaye upon which the ALGON chairman was arrested and detained was totally wrong and dehumanizing because Hon Taofik was just one of the numerous political rivalry in the state that Dino has labeled as his foe.

This was a man who posted on his facebook wall about three months ago that he foresaw the same Hon Taofik and the Chief of Staff to Kogi Governor, Edward Onoja, in a beautiful prison uniforms.

Should this kind of person raise an allegation and be taken seriously?  Corroborating Dino’s statement on his facebook wall with the recent assassination attempt on his life as he claimed, one can easily conclude that the alleged attacked was orchestrated.

The question that Nigerians should ask Senator Dino Melaye is that why did he come home with over 10 fairy looking fully armed police officers? Why did he lodge them in a far distance hotel while he has enough room in his house that could accommodate security men?

While the attack was on, why did Dino not put a call through to the officers even when he claimed that the attack lasted for over one hour?

The entire people of Kogi State and indeed Nigeria at large are not unaware of Dino’s numerous antecedents in thuggery, rascality, public nuisance, flamboyancy, and other unethical and unthinkable behavior.

We urge Dino to concentrate on the national assignment which is the mandate that has been given to him, to bring dividends of democracy to his people as his other colleagues in the senate have been doing in their respective constituencies.

And if he felt that his antecedents in the state can never earned him second term ticket due to his poor representation of his people in the senate, we think the best thing for him to do is to retrace his step rather than engaging in an unending battle with everybody.

However, in as much as the youths did not want to interrupt the ongoing investigation on the alleged assassination attempt on Dino, we demand that the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to immediately order the release of Hon Taofik or charge him to court because his continous detention violate his fundamental human right.

The Senators are elected to make laws for the people of Nigeria, but it is disheartening that some of them are abusing that position, and using it as a medium to witch-hunting their perceived political enemies without recourse to the rule of law.
